take it to a front end shop for a free estimate

lots of things could be wrong and make noise including - tie rod ends - wheel bearing - or even the steering rack

put the thing up on jacks grab the top of the wheel and the bottom and give it a push pull motion if you feel movement in the wheel then they either need replacin or they on there way out it will probably pay to get them replaced even if they have the slightest bit of movement this is the same for any car if you want to check if the ball joints are on there way out

Prices sound about right but I'm skeptical that you need any of it. On an old RV it's entirely possible though. A knocking sound when you turn the wheel all the way to one side and do a slow turn is the "classic" ball joint symptom.

Jack up the front end and grab the wheels. Rock them left to right and pick up and down. If they move all over the place, you need ball joints!Or somekind of front end work to say the least!

Usually a worn ball joint, and i mean a badly worn one, will make a clunk noise when you apply the brakes. The sound you hear on turns are mainly the struts that are in need of replacing.
good luck.....

i own a repair shop, and the best thing for you to do is take it to a real good mechanic and have him check it, he can ell you everything that's wrong with the front end of it,he can put the whole vehicle in the air and check both sides of it,this way you,ll know for sure ,front end work can be tricky and sounds can travel from one side to the other on them,so id suggest you take it and have a free inspection done on it,good luck,i hope this help,s.

Visually look at the tires and wheels and see if the car leans or if wheels tilt. That will help.
