I don't know if it's what I made the DVD's from or what but it seems there's a gap in quality in different brands of DVD's, is this true???

Yes..and you will also find out that Burning DVDs is NOT a Science, it is an Art. One method that works for you may not work for others and vice-versa.

Trial and error is the best when burning dvds.

I have found Sony's DVD media to be the best for me. I have a Lite-ON DVD Burner.

it could be a quality issue if you are getting really cheap blanks, but more likely its hardware related. no one really advertises this, but some brands of DVD blanks don't work or don't work well with certain brands of burners and players. i haven't figured out what works best with what, but i do know this problem exists. your best bet would be to try a few and stick with what works best.
