Yes they do and I have seen this with my own eyes. Some people that keep chickens often have to clip their pecks with nail clippers to stop them from doing this. I know it sounds cruel but if they do get in the habbit of eating the eggs it has to be done, and no, it doesn't hurt them, they just look a bit silly for a while.

Yes, but not just because they like to peck at stuff. They eat their own eggs because they don't have enough calcium. You need to buy oyster shell calcium from the feed store. Once chickens start to eat their own eggs its very hard to stop them. You won't collect very many eggs when they start to break them open. Also if they don't have adequate water supply they will break open their eggs to drink.

The concepts to function calcium to their weight-help plan is real. oftentimes in the form of overwhelmed oyster shells. only keep in mind that GRIT is somewhat stones overwhelmed into very small products and used by way of the chickens for their gizzard. The gizzard desires it to assist with the grinding of the foodstuff of their crop. Egg eating is often led to from a deficiency in diet D. including supplements and minerals to their weight-help plan by way of water is a competent theory. this is going to additionally help them in the event that they're under any form of tension. tension will additionally reason egg eating behaviour. regrettably, this is demanding to end chickens from eating eggs, while they start up. All it takes is an accidently broken egg, and boost, a sparkling delicacy is discovered. Now that they have got accomplished it, you will ought to make certain the coop periodically known and do away with all eggs. make certain you have adequate nests to accomodate the hens. next, darken the laying nests. positioned a chunk of fabric in front of it, or pick on a community nesting container, it somewhat is fairly dark and could discourage the hens from eating the eggs. Do you have the suitable nesting textile in the packing boxes, which incorporate shavings or straw? make certain the coop isn't too outstanding besides. in case you may no longer get them to end this habit, evaluate them as foodstuff for the pot - STEW. I in actual fact desire all of it works out in the terrific interest of the chickens!

I've heard of people feeding chickens eggs and even KFC. That particular chicken is not doing so well right now, so I wouldn't take that route.

My experience is that they do not eat the eggs unless the egg is cracked. In the event that the egg is cracked they go crazy over it like its their last meal.

yes they blooming well do. and once they start they will actively seek out eggs. Hard world but if they start that, they end up in the pot as they teach the others to do it too.

You can get "hen goggles" and i am not joking, which will stop them doing it because they can't see properly.
