what is the diffrence between extra coarse salt and normal pellet salt for a water softner.?

can i use either one

use pellets...they last much longer and work better, we tried rock salt years ago and ended up getting rid of the softner because it wasn't working correctly....purchased a new softner last spring and use pellets now.....no problems at all!

extra course I think would be like rock salt,, that is full of sand, you can use it but you would have to clean out the bottom of your tank alot to get the sand out,, use the pellets instead.

I THINK ROCK SALT HAS TOO MANY IMPURITIES!
