I have had a splinter in my thumb now for about a month and the skin around it is slightly blistered and septic, I have tried digging around with tweezers but couldn't get it, any ideas how to get it out.

If something is lodged in the ground you have to dig around it to acess/loosen it. It's the same with a bad splinter. The best way is to get a sharp pair of tweezers (not the rounded kind). If your tweezers aren't sharp, get the sharpest ones you have and a piece of sandpaper. Sharpen the tips of the tweezers on the sandpaper. This can be done very easily and quickly because the metal the tweezers are made from is very maleable compared to harder metals. then get a ordinary pin. Make sure to wash the tweezers and the pin w/ soap and water. Now see if you can pull the skin out right around the entry point or thereabouts of the splinter. This is where the pin comes in. You can use the pin to help you pull away some of the skin surrounding it if needed. Take it one step at a time...don't rush in anxiety....this method will work if you do it correctly. Now once the skin around the splinter is sufficiently removed, a tip of the foreign object (splinter) should be exposed. Lightly grab it with the tips of the tweezers and gently, slowly remove it as not to break it off and become even further lodged. After it is removed thoroughly wash the area with straight antibacterial dishsoap preferrably or whatever is available if necessary. Rub the infected area gently with the dish liquid for a minute, then rinse it w/ warm water. Put an antibiotic ointment on it and bandaid or bandage if necessary. Keep this area dry...do not get it wet. Redress the wound daily. If the wound starts to smell go to the doctor right away as it has become seriously infected and you will need antibiotics. Good luck.

If tweezers didn't help, then you should soak the affected part in a glass of vinegar (undiluted, and any type) for about 5 to 10 minutes. For some reason, vinegar will draw the splinter out. But maybe you have left it too late? A month is a long time! You might need to soak your thumb for 30 minutes!
Try the vinegar remedy, and if it doesn't work, go to your doctor. If it happens again, use the vinegar within a few days!
Good Luck!

This is an old remedy that actually works!
Crack an egg. On the inside of the shell you will see a membrane that looks like white paper. Strip some of this membrane off and cover the area where the splinter is with it; then cover the whole thing with a good sticking plaster (Band-Aid, etc.). In about 24 hrs the membrane will draw the splinter out. It works because the membrane shrinks as it dries, creating a sort of vaccuum effect and drawing out the splinter.

With a sharp, fairly fine sewing needle. You`ll have to "pick" the skin off with it until you get to the splinter, then tweezer it out, or keep taking the skin away with the needle until the splinter comes out.

Take a sewing needle and match or lighter and sterilize the needle with the flame and try to dig it out or at least bring it forward so you can remove with tweezers. But if you can not remove then see a doctor, it's not good when it's blistering etc.

Sterilize a sewing needle, and have a tweezer ready. See if you can get the end of the splinter to stick out above your skin, and then use the tweezers to pull it out. Sometimes you can even push it out with the needle.

I dont know If I would try it now that It is infected? Usually I use glue. Open the puncture with a needle so the splinter is exposed. Then put a dot of glue over it and let it harden. When you peel it off the splinter should come with it

When you go to bed, wrap scotch tape around it. THis dries out the skin or something, but I know it pulls it towards the surface. Then, try using a knife (it only hurts a little) to cut open the skin and pull it with tweezers.
