Back in the 70s I had a 1970 road runner with a 440 big block with three duces six pack that top out at 110 or 115 miles an hour but at that speed the front end would lift off road surfaces and start plaining out of control.

I don't know exactly but I buried the speedometer on a 1969 Mustang fastback with a 428 Cobra engine. I know when I went to brake I had immediate brake fade from heat. It was one of those stupid moments in life! I'd like to see the Mercury Mountaineer that did 145! That's a bit far stretched for my ears! Must have had a Chevy pulling from the front!

If I remember correctly, I did 110mph in a 1979 Monte Carlo w/a 305 V-8 in it (this was in 1986). Not a spectacular engine, but I was certainly flying pretty fast.

*I was a backseat passenger in a 1969 Camaro that did 125 mph down a dark country road. Whoa, that was fast! (maybe because I was crammed in the backseat and not driving?)

Great question, i've done 150 but it was only cos my little boy was in an ambulance at the time on his way to hosp, so I figured even if i did get pulled i'd make the filth go infront of me so i could go faster!!!!
