What can I do when a neighbor dumps their trash onto my property and then when the trash collector doesn't pick it up, won't come back and remove it? The police told me I would have to prove the stuff was theirs (e.g. name on an item in the trash). This person is leaving heavy, large items that obvioulsy would not have a name on it. Other than hiring a private investigator to prove this is happening, what else can I do? I have never been friendly with this person because they don't appear to be stable (mentally). I feel like my hands are tied with this situation. Any legal advice out there about what I can do?

The truth is most cities have fines for littering. Short of the picture thing, do you have any other neighbors who were witnesses to this??

If the item has recycle value, you could junk it out for parts or metals. Copper is very high and many electrical things have copper wires. There are junk dealers who specialize in this and may be willing to work on a percentage basis.

Catch the neighbor in action on a digital camera or a mobile phone it will be much cheaper than hiring a private investigator.

Once you have a proof the local police can help you out.

Take a picture of the neighbour placing these items.

Try to catch them doing it, and take pictures if you can. Or you could just get some friends to help you place it back on their property.
