I like the answer above - basically all the players are up to something. The confusion here is cheating vs. breaking a rule. He broke a rule - you have to think OJ is innocent not to see that. Doesn't matter whether he tried to or not. "Oops, I accidentally interfered with that runner..." doesn't fly either.

1) Obviously he put something on there. Then he lied about it, giving different stories several different ways. Who would pitch with a dirty hand in the world series? Have you ever tried to throw with a dirty hand?

2) The rules are unequivocal here. The reason he gets away with it is he's a veteran and La Russa doesn't want to start sh*t because odds are all the pitchers use something to help out in cold weather.

3) This whole situation is a disgrace. It makes NO DIFFERENCE that he went on to pitch 7 good innings. The Cards could've scored 6 runs in the first if it had not been for the incident. Probably not, but could have.

That argument (from Tigers fans mainly) is basically the same as it is OK for a guy to play with a corked bat if later he hits a home run with a regular bat. Obvious BS.

4) I'm going to scream the next person that calls it "dirt." No way a major league pitcher suddenly starts in the playoffs with a huge brown smudge on his hands, in three consecutive games, and doesn't know it. If he needs a better grip, use the rosin bag. He was loading up the ball and everyone who's not biased for Detroit knows it.

5) Cards didn't pursue it, so I say let's drop it. Bet your butt however, if they tigers found cork in Pujols bat they'd move on it.

6) Here's the other stupid argument: "It was so obvious he couldn't have been cheating." OK, so let's go out there with a nail file in the glove and let it dangle, and say I must've forget it when doing my nails. And then when pressed, say "Hey why would I be so stupid."

Whether he INTENDED TO OR NOT, the rules say no foreign substance. Intention is not an issue.

i do no longer understand. it somewhat is oftentimes the media's fault for hyping stuff like this. this is an imprecise rule. Pine tar isn't a huge deal. It supplies a sprint grip and probably a sprint spin on breaking balls. It has little or no result on fastballs. Many pitchers do it, even although they "shouldn't". BTW, having pine tar isn't an instantaneous ten interest ban. of their discretion, the umpires can furnish a warning. this could have been what surpassed off and Rogers did no longer decide to confess on national television that he "cheated". as a results of fact the Cardinal's gamers/supervisor did no longer call him a cheater, confronted with the situation, there is not any reason for all of us else to declare so. The umpires dealt with it nicely under the regulations and that's that.

I AM SICK OF PEOPLE ACCUSING ROGERS OF CHEATING!!!!!!!!!!! First off, the camera only picked up something on his hand, which he washed off after the first inning. The Cardinals still could not touch him afterwards, so what does that tell you????????

Secondly, why is it that Sosa and McGuirre can go their whole career doing roids, be found guilty of it, and still be looked upon as folk heroes, yet Rogers gets tabbed as a cheater because there was a subtance found on his hand (which was never proved to be illegal) for one inning he pitched?????

Thirdly, even if Rogers was doctoring up the ball (which I do not believe he was) you think he's the only one in the majors who doesn't??? Gaylord Perry admitted he threw the spitter for most of his career. Sosa got caught using a corked bat his last year with the Cubs. I guarantee you, it goes on more often then what we know, yet, just because big mouth Tim McCarver (who, from listening to his color commentary on the first two games of the W.S. makes me believe he still has some sour grapes from when he was on the Cardinals team in '68, when the Tigers were the first team to ever win a World Series after having been down 1-3) makes an accusation because the cameras picked up Rogers' hand was a little dirty, everyone accuses him of being a cheater!!!!! If the Cardinals thought this was going on, then why didn't they have the umpire check out Rogers' hand right then and there when he was out on the mound??

This is a joke right? In a sport with Barry Bonds as a player Kenny Rogers is the biggest ****** in the major leagues? Funny, after the first inning when he cleaned the DIRT off his hands the Cards still couldn't touch him!

It may have been just dirt and mud, but from one camera angle it sure looked sticky. When some other pitchers were asked what they thought, the general opinion was that it might have been pine tar.

He washed dirt off of his hand after the 1st inning and proceeded to shut out the Cardinals after that.

Yes. Cheater and a major league ******.

But still one helluva pitcher. I'd put him on my team.

You need to stop pointing fingers and get your facts straight. He paid for his mistake last season and was extremely repentful to the camera man he attacked if that's where you're going with this. As far as last night.........it's called dirt!!! Stop looking for excuses. What kind of fan are you?

Stop whining you pathetic Cardinals fan. Even if there WAS something on his hand, he washed it off after the first inning, and continued to pitch 7 SCORELESS INNINGS!!
