As above mentioned over heating, but another cause could be you just need to open the case use a can of air to blow out the dust if it has lots of dust, then re seat your cards, and memory, sometimes with the heating and cooling the expanding can partially unseat cards and memory where the connections are not set. then after that, it could be a bad power supply, if no virus found.

Some Windows Updates will force the system to restart once they have installed. It may be that you have other software installed that updates in the same way and restarts without you telling it to.

This could also be an error of some kind - software or hardware. If this is happening too often, I would suggest backing up your files and performing a system recovery.

The computer might encounter a bug running certain program, encountering problem working with certain driver or some other problems which cause blue screen of death which can be commonly seen with window 2000 and version older than window 2000.
As for win xp, it automatically restart when it encounter blue screen of death. You can turn the option off though, but it won't do any good.
Sometime I encounter such problems too, with my graphic card while playing games.=( Not a big deal actually.

Two possibilities come immediately to mind. If you have the computer set up to automatically update, it automatically restarts itself when it is done with the download. Second possibility is a virus, so run a virus scan just to be sure.

Window updates will do that to you--it posts something that says restart now or later, and if you pick nothing and don't touch a key for a few minutes, it will assume it's a good time and restart then. Be sure to pick restart later when you see this message, unless you are ready to re-boot.

There's several reasons why that would happen. Best thing to do is right click on 'My Computer' and select 'Manage'. Go into Event viewer and see if there were any errors at the time the computer rebooted. Take the error number and google it for a solution.

Most likely a virus/Spyware, get your computer cleaned up with some good internet security/Virus scan software.

They can be pricey: but they work!

eg. Norton Internet Security 2006, McAfee

if u r using MS windows XP or later then there is option that is restart automatically. whenever ur system memory is low, at that time ur system gets restart. if u wanna avoid that so just increase ur virtual memory in computer properties. you can also uncheck the option restart automatically in computer properties
