hypothetical situation:
if there was a drug that killed approximately 50% of the people who used it over the course of several decades, and 10 million people used it, about 5 million would still be alive at 70. And the not so bright could point to all those people and say "if that drug is so bad, why are there so many 70 year old users still around?"
Nobody says that smoking kills everybody who smokes. Some people seem to be more susceptible to lung cancer than others. Considering all the millions that smoked their whole lives, you should expect that a lot will still be around at 70. To conclude from that that smoking is not unhealthy is moronic. If you want to make a case for smoking not being unhealthy, then you should get estimates of how many who smoked all their lives died prematurely from that smoking and how many still are living (and living healthy).

If you ever smoked in your lifetime and died it was smoking related . SO two years in highschool or college or at anytime in your life made your death the result of smoking in government studies .They even include smokers killed in auto accidents slip and falls and any othe statistic you can think of .If you died smoking did it .
Why are there so many 70 year old smokers is because smoking does not always cause cancer .only in those who are geneticaly predesposed to cancers developing .
A buddy of mine said his great grandad smoked till the day he died at age 93 from around 10 thats 80 years of smoking .Now if smoking kills people he would of been dead along time ago .It is not smoking that kills people but the genes you have been given .
Cancer can come from radiation chemicals aaand almost any thing man has made by combining materials that do not occur in nature .
Handleing bare metals can cause health problems .Breathing contaminated air can cause problems and drinking water can too .
There are 90 year old men smoking tabacco in ares that are not contaminated by mans chemicals living long lives .
So smoking is like crossing the street some people will cross it millions of times and others only a couple of times .Is crossing the street going to kill you or not .Tot hose people crossing it a million times you can bet they say no way but to the family and friends of those killed crossing the street requires lights and barriers so we can all cross in safety .I will go ahead and cross where i want and smoke if you do not mind .

I am an ex smoker who has not lost his mind and become an anti smoking Nazi. I believe smoking is your personal choice. I had a great grandmother who lived to be 93 and was a smoker. She was killed in a horseback accident so she was still vibrant.
I believe all of the anti smoking zealotry was ginned up by scummy lawyers looking for the big score: they got it. The people who make faces at you when you smoke in your own yard are just useful idiots to them.
The comical thing is that same crowd is usually more liberal and very dependent on the tobacco taxes. What will happen if that money goes away?

Alot has to do with the brand they smoke. Menthol and the weird additives seem to be the major contributors to smokers early death. My grandmother smoked Lucky Strike non filter till she died. She was in her late 80's. I've been smoking cigarettes and weed since I was 12 yrs old , I am now almost 42. I guess I'm double screwed huh?

Maybe luck.. maybe genetics.. but I don't know if I would go as far as to say there are soo many. There are always exceptions to every rule. The rule is that hundreds of thousands of people die every year due to smoking. Don't fool yourself into thinking a few exceptions make the rule.

ok first of all, this is not a political question.
second of all, there is enough research to dictate that smoking is in fact, bad for your health. yes there are those people that dont get the affects of smoking that the majority suffer from but, that has everything to do with genetics.
do some research, and please post somewhere else.
