Why compromise? You can get a live tree in a pot and have the beauty and smell of a real tree and then plant it in the ground after the holiday instead of throwing it on the street with the millions of other dead trees that people buy avery season.

Another alternative is a Norfolk Island Pine, which is avery slow growing tree that you can keep in a pot and decorate year after year while enjoying its beauty year round.

Personally, while real trees offer a wonderful scent, I prefer artificial ones. Especially now, there is such a wide variety of fake tress and many truly do look real. There are several benefits to investing in a fake tree. While the cost of a really good one that looks realistic may be much greater than a fake tree, you are saving money down the road by not having to invest in a fake one every year. Also, there is no hauling involved - merely keep the box or buy a plastic container to store it away in the off season.

One benefit I love of having a fake tree is that you can put it up earlier (I put it up the day after Thanksgiving). Even with putting it up early, and enjoying it longer, it still looks freshly cut on Christmas Day.

The number one reason I choose fake over real though is the fire hazard. Real trees must be kept watered and wet and absolutely must not become dried out. If the tree becomes dry, the lights hanging on the tree can cause the tree to ignite, and if you were sleeping, not home, or just in another part of the house, this fire can get out of hand very quickly and do immense damage to your home.

Also real trees shed, and require vaccuming constantly to pick up the dropped needles. This is annoying once you have presents under the trees, becuase the pine litter gets everywhere in between presents and just is a lot of hassle.

For people who just truly enjoy real trees, why not just take a walk in the woods? In addition to seeing the real trees (still alive unlike being dead in your living room), you will see birds and wildlife also enjoying the tree, and you will get the joy of hearing the snow crunch under your boots and feeling the cold tingle of the crisp air on your nose.

As for that "real tree scent" in your home, why not buy some potpourri, some room spray, or a nice candle (yankee candle company has very nice ones)? While this has an open flame, there is much less risk of a fire if used properly and not left unattended. This way you can still smell that christmas scent in your home.

This is just my personal opinion. Hope it helps!

I used to always buy real until last year. The trees these days are so expensive, plus I've had problems with watering the tree, then it overflows and gets stains on my carpet. And for some reason, the fresh pine scent isn't as long lasting as in the "old" days. So I finally broke down and bought a fake one. I feel rather like I've betrayed the spirit of Christmas, though! LOL.

Real. Yes, you'll have to clean up the pine needles... but it's worth it.

When I was younger we always had the same thin, ugly fake tree and then one year my dad brought home a real one and I loved it. I wanted one like that every year. So big and beautiful and it smelled so nice - much better than any fake tree. Why? Because it's not fake, they just don't compare.

It really depends on what your situation is. I know that in a lot of apartments they won't let you have a real tree because it is considered a fire hazard. Then you should probably go fake. If you do live in a house and you don't have a lot of storage room a fake one can be a hassle. I personally prefer real ones. There are a lot of needles, but the smell is great!

I like the artificial tree. Since it is already pre-lit, there is no need for me to spend all that time untangling and testing lights. Also, I bought one from Sams a few year ago and it has fiber optic lights at the ends of all the branches. I love the way it twinkles.
The tree sets up easily, and since I kept the original box to store it in, it looks great year after year. I don't have to worry about watering, getting sap all over my hands and arms while decorating, or pine needles on the floor. Also I don't have to worry about shopping for and transporting a tree year after year.

Real, unless you have allergies and your eyes water and turn red every time you are around it. Then go for fake. We have put up both in the same year and that was fun. I try to put up as many trees as I can in the house and it's so much fun!

fake, if "real" or alive tree is been cut, there will be a great loss
of natural...... cos everyone is gonna cut down every real Christmas tree juz to celebrate for Christmas.....and Christmas onli last about 2 & 4 days or 1 month........but it took
a real Christmas tree 70+ years to grow back.....

is it worth it?

For safety sake I would get an artificial tree. The real ones smell good and look nice but one spark and your whole house is gone.
