I am moving back to my mums house on a temporary basis until I can find more suitable accommodation for myself and 2 kids. I have to store most of my belongings in my mums garage, and winter is starting. How can I store my boxes, etc without everything getting ruined by damp.

the best you can do Lintz is cover in bubble wrap and keep up off the floor !!open doors on fine days when no damp air around and unwrap now and then and if moisture has formed wipe off and re-wrap if you have space for a small elec fire then put that on occasioally. cold weather no problem its the damp days you need to check good luck xx to the babs

There are plenty of places which rent out storage on a monthly basis and this might be a better option for you. You can rent exactly the size of room you need, OK it will cost you but damp will not be an issue.

You have correctly idientified damp as the main problem. If you do want to use your mum's garage- and it sounds as though you DO- then as previously suggested a dehumidifier will be the best way to keep the damp out. BUT dehumidifiers don't work if the atmosphere is too cold. You're going to have to be willing to heat the garage at least to some extent.

Of course you could just get some big plastic bags and store your stuff in that but it isn't a good ides to store clothing in plastic bags.
