Take either Egyptian pounds and Travellers Cheques. Be careful when the locals give you change as their "Pence" notes look almost like their "Pound" notes. I went to Egypt last year and found a lot of tourists get swindled with this and you will loose out. Another word of advice, you will get badgered in buying their (crap) perfume in the small side shops. Politely refuse by saying "La Shukran". Means "No Thank You". Have a nice trip x

Show the colour of your money and almost everything will be accepted - even coins!!!! Sterling, euros and american dollars are equally accepted everywhere above the counter. You will get a better rate for your money on the blackmarket with dollars. If you are coming from the UK I wouldn't bother exchanging any to bring with you unless your flight arrives after 12am and you will need a little local currency (mixed denominations) so's not to get ripped off by the cab drivers.

Purchase everything you possibly can with your credit card. Exchange your currency into Egyptian Pounds only when you need cash. Please remember to tip restroom attendents, porters, waiters, taxi drivers, tour guides, and anyone who helps you. When you leave Egypt, donate your remaining currency. Enjoy a wonderful holiday.

A mix of Egyptian pounds and USD.

The exchange rate in Egypt would be different than in your country, but I am not sure which one would be better.
