Yes it is safe to leave turned on.
You can talk to a few people and you will get a few different responses which is better to leave your computer turned on of off when not in use.
Always good to turn of the monitor when not in use.
CPU's don't like the temperature to change from hot to cold too often so its better to keep the PC on.
Hard drives spinning all the time can wear it out so its good to set it up to let windows turn off hard drive after a certain amount of time

It's perfectly safe to leave on as long as you have a firewall installed. You should however, restart it at least once every couple of weeks. One thing that may happen over time though is that dust may build up inside the case coating fans and heat sinks, this can cause heat build-up that will shorten the life of your computer. Every 6 months or so blow the dust out using one of those aerosol cans of compressed air.
I have had one of my computers turned on for over 4 years.

Well first off, if you are planning to just leave everything on, and you have no firewall, no antivirus, no spyware remover, then It is very dangerous to leave it on. For one, your leave your machine open to hackers, and thieves, who are looking for a machine to hack into. Not only that, but, Some hacker will even go as far as implanting a trojan horse on your system, allowing them to use your computer as a server that would allow them to surf the internet freely (WAREZ). But on the othe hand if you have everything running on what I just mentioned above, you are more that 95% safe of leaving your machine on.

Let me know how safe it is to leave the old PC switched on.
Generally PCs are not harmed by power but or other factors such as virus and other external attacks.
So it is the same as with old PC.

There are myths that turning a computer off is bad for it.
I don't know why but no its not bad to leave it on.
If your are connected to the internet make sure you are secure, but if not then leave it on for as long as you like. I have a server which gets rebooted like once every 5months or something - its not had a problem! :)

Go to Control panel>power options>set 'allow hibernation' or standby. This will greatly reduce power consumption, keep the bad guys out, and make for a much faster boot.

it is safe but your psu will fail sooner if it is on 24/7 because the psu has to keep suppling power to the pc to leave it on.the harddrive will keep spinnig so it will go sooner.but if you offten turn your computer on and off just leave it on .make surer you have the net off so you don't hackers and spyware etc.

It's actually better if it is left on, instead of a constant switching from off to on.
It also allows automatic updates to run, keeping your system up to date against viruses and running an outdated operating system.
If anything, just log off.
