If it's only the seat that is moving, make sure the attaching pieces are lined up into the grooves properly. This is a two-handed chore, that requires one hand to hold the main pieces stationery, and the other one to place and tighten the nut and bolt apparatus, which, these days, seems to come only in plastic, which can become easily stripped. Tighten hand-tight; over-tightening will strip the thing and it will just keep turning without grabbing anything. This is one of my least favourite chores, but take your time, and ensure that the seat is "flush" to the toilet, pun intended. It beats balancing your butt on a 2 x 4 in order to sit down to do one's business. If it is the actual toilet that you are talking about moving, it would appear that the floor is rotted and all needs to be removed right down to the subfloor, including replacing that, too, if it is rotted. Not sure which one you mean from the question; hope it's just the seat...

Bernie, go get a new toilet seat screw set, seems to me that the post of the screw is too narrow for your seat. you can pick that up for about 2 bucks at any hardware store. If the screws are attached, then try putting shrink tubing on the center portion so that it only thickens the center part, and hit it with a hair dryer, make sure you leave enough of the post thread. You can add as many layers as you need to but do this one at a time...otherwise, you will need a new seat...again..provided it is the SEAT you are talking about and not the whole unit, if its the whole unit, I have dealt with that problem as well.

I guess you've got a loo seat with plastic threads or wing nuts, possibly from a DIY shop.

If so, you need to buy a new one, they never tighten up properly.

You need a loo seat with a bar across the back that means the 2 hindges are joined together - much stronger. Make sure the nuts and bolts are metal...about £26 from a good plumbing trade counter....keep away from that tat they sell in DIY shops

These things always come loose.
Put some nail varnish on the screw threads and then tighten. Be sure that the rubberised washers are in place as this helps to grip the porcelain. Leave for a few hours before using.

Hi. Remove the screws, find a piece of tubing with the same ID as the screw's OD but that will fit into the holes, trim to length.

If its the toilet and NOT the seat......loosen the screws enough so you can move the toilet a little....get clear silicone sealant....the stuff the double glazing people use around window frames. put it between the floor and toilet bowl...re screw down and leave overnight or longer if possible ... should do the job.

Its a fantastic question! Why? Because I spent three hours re-adjustinig our seat. The fittings have specific instructions and can be moved accordingly. You will need these - why they make them like this I dont know!

My seat does that too. I don't like to over tighten incase I break the loo. And I don't think you need a plumber as some idiot sugested.

YAY 900 points!!
