I'm about to have the coil fitted as the pill no longer helps my periods. I have been told nightmare stories that it's really painful if you haven't had children. Can anyone give me any advice?

I have a Mirena coil and it's the best thing ever - fitting it was no more uncomfortable than having a smear test, and although initially I had a day of cramps, since then I never even think about it as I'm not even aware it's there. I know it doesn't suit everyone, but if it's painful, you just have it removed and it's gone -there are no long lasting effects. Incidentally, I no longer have periods at all due to the progesterone in the Mirena - the standard coil with no progesterone will not help with periods, and can make them heavier. The comment about a "well endowed" partner feeling it is rather silly as he would have to have the thinnest penis in the world to make it past your cervix. The only thing he might possibly feel are the threads, but your doctor can cut them short and tuck them up inside you when he fits the coil and he will feel nothing.

I had the coil fitted years ago before I had my children. It was uncomfortable to have fitted, but it certainly wasnt agony. It felt like a mild period cramp, I rested for the rest of that day and by the next morning I was fine. It didnt hurt having it removed either so please dont get in a state, the more uptight you are the more uncomfortable it will be. Good luck, you will be ok so dont worry.

Take ibeprofine before your fitting and all will be okay. I had mine inserted and took only 1 pill and was okay. The one your DR is likely recomending is the one with hormones which helps with your period. Para Guard will increase yoru blood flow as well as the cramps but Mirena is GOOD. Take two pills of ibeprofine 40 min before your fitting and it will be okay go home and rest if you get bad cramps and keep in mind by the next day the cramps will be gone or at the very least be less intense

i have the coil fitted but i've had children.

You do get a few tummy cramps once you've had coil fitted but then i feel nothing. My periods are only heavy one day a month but not as heavy as i expected.

If you want to regulate your periods, the coil isnt the answer!

Yeah. Having the coil fitted isn't really fun. Sorry for being gross but it's kind of like someone shooting an arrow up your............
Anyway, it affects your periods. Usually makes them heavier. I'd advise against the coil.

You should start by not wanting to get pregnant, just have sex everyday or every other day and don't think about getting pregnant, just have fun with your partner. Get more useful information and guides to get pregnant here https://tr.im/TqXjZ
after sex-put a pillow under your butt or prop your feet up on the wall so your pelvis is tilted
eat healthy
back off caffiene
workout, even if its just a 20 minute walk a day, be active.

the doc gave me two painkillers to take the morning of my appointment, she also fitted the coil during my period as she said it was the best time and also no chance of me being pregnant and I can honestly say it was only slightly uncomfortable like a smear test......good luck.....

oh boy it sure is painfull if you have never had the neck of your womb opened! also it is not totally reliable! any bad fall )drunk or sober!) could move it without you know ing it! and if by any chance this happens and you get pregnant it can kill the baby! my best advice to you is don't do it!
