It started last night, I went to bed w/ aches in my belly, that I thought were gas pains, They eventually stopped (Or I was just so tired I fell asleep and didn't notice them anymore) that was, Until I woke up at 1 am, Literally curling over in pain every few minutes, with the same pains, I got out of bed, Came into the living room, still having the pains, I felt like I had to use the bathroom, went and I had diarrhea, I thought the pains would stop, They didn't, I was still curling over in pain every few minutes, Went to the bathroom again, same result. Laid back down, felt a few more of the pains, And eventually (Come 3 am) I fell back asleep, VERY restless sleep mind you, I think I woke up like 30 times last night. I got up this morning, and JUST started feeling the pains again! I went to the bathroom as soon as I got up, And again, Had diarrhea, Is this a sign that my body is cleaning itself out for labor to begin shortly?

That's exactly how I went into labor. I didn't even know it was labor, I just happened to have a check up that morning. The doc sent me up to labor and delivery after my appointment. Had the baby the next day.

I don't know if you are going into labor, but with that much diarrhea you are most likely dehydrated, and that isn't good for you or your baby. If I were you I would call your ob/gyn and tell the office what is going on. Most likely they will have you come into the office or send you to the hospital. While I was waiting for your doctor I would drink lots of fluids and maybe have soup and some crackers. If you are in labor you need to keep up your strength.

Question: Is it normal to have diarrhea near the end of pregnancy?

Answer: It's generally more common to suffer from constipation than diarrhea during pregnancy. But some women do report having mild diarrhea just before they go into labor.

Otherwise, just like when you're not pregnant, you can have diarrhea caused by a stomach virus or food poisoning. Certain antibiotics and antacids can sometimes cause diarrhea, as can some foods: Sugar-free candies are common culprits, as are dairy products for people who are lactose-intolerant.

And women with gastrointestinal problems like inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and diverticulitis can suffer from occasional or chronic diarrhea.

If you've been suffering from constipation and haven't had a bowel movement in a number of days, and then you suddenly develop watery diarrhea, you might have fecal impaction. In this condition, hard, impacted stool causes a partial or complete obstruction of the large bowel. Watery stool sometimes leaks around it and shows up as diarrhea. In this case, you'll probably have other symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and a distended (or "bloated") abdomen. These are the signs of an intestinal obstruction, for which you'll need immediate evaluation and treatment.

If you've come down with a stomach virus or a mild case of food poisoning, you should improve in 24 hours or less. In the meantime, it's important to drink plenty of fluids, and it can often help to stick to bland foods like bananas, rice, and toast. If diarrhea continues for more than a day, call your midwife or doctor. Also call your healthcare provider if your diarrhea is accompanied by abdominal pain or fever, if you have "explosive" diarrhea, if it contains blood or mucus, or if you start to get dehydrated.

I had wicked diarrhea the day before i had both my kids. other signs you you watch for are the "bloody show" pink, or blood streaked mucus. and you pains could well be labor pains, or something you ate. i would drink plenty of fluids and call your doc asap, at 37 weeks you should be far enough along to deliver safely, but you don't want to do it because you are ill with food poisoning, you know? having an illness can sometimes trigger contractions, usually though, i do believe that it is a urinary tract infection that does that, though. call your doc and good luck!

With my 2nd child when I started labor I had diarrhea every 15 minutes (I guess when I'd have a labor pain) Not through the whole labor though, just the beginning!

Very possibly. When labor starts the bowels are usually emptied...lots of time as diarrhea. The pains you mentioned...were they diarrhea type pains or were they tightening of the belly area? If it was tightening then you ought to start timing them to see if there is any regularity to them. My OB says once they are coming every five minutes for more than an hour then we should go to the maternity ward. Hope this helps.

I read that often your body does instinctively empty your bowels before labor. So it could be. At week 37, I'd probably go ahead to the hospital to see what's going on.
And try to drink a lot of water meanwhile.
Good luck!
