I currently live in Baltimore and while it's definitely NOT my favorite city, there are some things I do like. It's a very water oriented area, and I spend a lot of the summer time on a boat on the river and bay. Canton and Fell Point are really fun parts of downtown, historical, and are a great place to get pretty drunk.
It has a lot of crime, specifically drug related, very bad parts of the city if you are not careful, don't even think of driving to DC cause it'll take you at least 1 hour and 30 minutes even though it's only 35 miles away, the Ravens suck, and the weather blows (freezing cold in the winter and humid, sticky, and nasty hot in the summer). Unfortunately, I love my family so I'm stuck here!

My oh my the negativity coming from the other Baltimore posters.
Baltimore is undergoing radical change and gentrification where the "criminal" element is being pushed into the outer counties thanks to Section 8 housing.
Baltimore is centrally located between the mountains to the west and the Ocean to the East. Traffic has increased but the US Government is relocating 20,000+ jobs to bases north and south of the city. Over the next 10 years - people will move to Baltimore due to being perceived as a cheap and safe place to live. Drug addicts and drug dealers are all over the place and they tend to attack each other and very, very rarely attack random people. Nuisance crimes will ebb and flow depending on police presence - but taking the proper precautions will ensure that one is not a victim of such crime.
Baltimore has a little something for everyone. If you're interested in affordable housing and a decent nightlife, Baltimore has something for you. If you want to live in areas which resemble the suburbs, Baltimore has something for you. Whatever you want, Baltimore has something for you. You can take the train and be in DC in 45 minutes if you don't feel like sitting in traffic for 90 minutes like the other poster mentioned. You can be in NYC in less than 3 hours with Amtrak (Philly in a little more than an hour).

While I don't live in Oregon, I've been there on a few occasions and I could give you some 'things' I found appealing! 1) What you see is what you pay (no sales tax). 2) An attendant pumps gasoline for your vehicle. 3) Oregon, as a state is very close to nature! A few beauties include Krater Lake, Mount Hood, and Multnomah Falls. 4) Portland is a bicycle-friendly city, or so I noticed. A great change from all the traffic in other major cities. Love Oregon myself! :)

Some areas of Baltimore are beautiful - as with any city that has been restored, but it's a hot, dirty city with lots of crime in the summer. I didn't like it at all, and as soon as I turned 18 yrs. old, I moved to California!! much better - nicer people, better climate

Pretty city... nice ballpark... historical sites galore
Not that safe at night if you leave Inner Harbor area.
Small for a 'big' city as to nightlife
Too liberal and somewhat arrogant
Orioles are a lousy baseball team
Hope you like crabs.... to eat that is....
Muggy warm humid in spring, summer and early fall

It's a great city. However it is quite segregated. Mostly the blacks are much poorer than the whites. The weather is cold and not great in the summer, either. Traffic and transportation are difficult, in my experience.
