Honesty is always the best policy I think, however there are times in certain situations when I feel its OK to not be dishonest, but perhaps stretch the truth to spare someones feelings. You wouldn't want to be brutally honest with someone fighting for their life for instance, or who has had a stroke, someone ill with depression. I think you should hold back in those instances.

Absolutely. You should not be honest about anything, anywhere, to anyone, though equally you should not be purposefully dishonest either. In any conversation, a level of honesty will assert itself quickly enough, with most people you will immediately see the lines you cannot cross.
That said, there is no limit to honesty in a romantic relationship. Dishonesty, even at minute levels, taints and ruins a relationship in the end - even if the relationship endures, knowing you've not been entirely honst will haunt you. You can't fully enjoy love unless you're not keeping things under the lid. Strange that, but it's true, trust me. I'm only being honest..

of course there is.
But as you get older you realize that there is a time and a place for honesty.
For example...if someone asks you "Do you think I'm pretty?" and you don't - it won't help matters if you are honest, especially if it's someone you care about.
But if someone asks you "Do you think my husband is cheating on me?" and he is, then you need to be REALLY honest.
The measure of your honesty should always be what is best for the other person. You can even end a relationship without being TOTALLY honest because to do so wouldn't accomplish the end of a relationship any more than just saying "This isn't working for me anymore." Leave out the part that adds "because you are sexually repulsive to me."

yea in a way another way of saying it is by being brutally honest
for example if your best friend was to ask you if your brother would like to go out with her he might say she's tooo tall 4 him etc. you re not gonna tell her that that will be brutally honest and might hurt her feelings (which youdo not want to do)you'd probably say oh he thinks that he's got a loooong way to go so you are just saying it in a nicer way not lying but at the same time not being sooooo damn honest that it hurts your best friends feelings
mliza
don't get me wrong it's a nasty feeling when your friend finds out you've been lying so don't!

Yes. I'm too honest a lot and it always comes back to bite me in the *ss. Sometimes honesty really isn't the best answer.

Yes there is. I'm not sure it's bad though. I think you're better off if you know the whole truth, even if it hurts. But sometimes it's just more than the person can handle, and it has no use.

I think so. I think it can hurt some people's feelings if you are too honest. For instance, if my 4 year old asks me if Santa is real I am not going to be honest.!
