I'm trying to find a specific example of how art or design can be used to bridge language barriers. I'm not real sure where to look to find this answer!

Art inspires, Art shows emotions, Art shows styles, textures, perspectives, Art can be anything creative from paintings to drawings to sculptures to photography. I think the deep emotions people feel and can express through their art shows through to every-ones soul. In order to bridge the gap you have to have people who get art and appreciate it. Otherwise it is lost on them. Some people can't see past the paper or canvas it is on. So language or not I think just being humane, we all can feel what is portrayed through art.

Hey Tess,

Art can inspire positive and negative bridges over language barriers. Art depicts a statement, you can hurt or help people with art - no words said.

Look at political cartoons - the ones with no words.

I wish. I hope.

Art can convey the deeply human parts of us. Our feelings, hopes, needs. Art can say so much more than words. Words so often get in the way of what we are trying to communicate.

I wonder how we could use art to communicate with North Korea or with Taliban, etc.? How can we use art to communicate with those who seek to kill off other whole races?

Putting it in play, would be the first obstacle.

well if you talk about languages I've found the deft languages is an international one like Esperanto is. I think that art it is not a language it is used to express things that language cannot describe like feelings of love.

well, you can try to find art objects (like paintings, for example) that express the same idea, although they are the creation of different cultures
