In Hollywood, there is a sign that hangs on the wall above the door to a rather antique studio. It reads "It is not enough to be Hungarian, you have to have talent, too."
Natural aptitude is always a plus, because it makes the path easier. But all that talent goes to waste if you do nothing with it.
So I agree with the statement that hard work leads to success, but I don't agree that natural talent plays no part in it.

In general, you can get by on hard work, whereas with natural talent, you can't just get by. For example, if someone is really good at a sport because of natural talent, but they don't bother to join a team, they lose out. On the other hand, if someone works really hard to join a team and be successful and does what they can to get better, they can make it.

well i think that while hard work does pay off in many respects, having a natural talent for something is equally important. But natural talent is not required to succeed. It is very helpful. As long as you are knowledgable about something and get good information, you can succeed at almost anything. One secret to success if always observing your environment, knowing what is changing and how you can capitolize on your strengths and work on your weaknesses.

I wouldn't agree with that at all.
You can have the best work ethic in the world but if you're no good at what you do, it counts for nothing. And to suggest otherwise strikes me as daft.
Can you imagine a potter who can't make pots trying to be successful? Or a bricklayer who doesn't know one end of a trowel from the other? Or a musician who can't play a single instrument?
Hard work without talent is a hammer without a nail.
The "secret to success" is to understand that there is no secret to success.

I think they go hand in hand. You have to have an interest and belief in what you are doing to ever become good at it. If not, no matter how hard you work, it is very unlikely to be a success.

I'm talented as hell, but those who work harder than I have in the past have succeeded at those things I've only dreamed of. My daughter has a friend who is not a natural athlete while my daughter is, but her friend worked harder than her and she's now a much better athlete than my kid.

natural talent is only a basic platform in which to launch to greater heights, but only through continuing education and hard work can you actually achieve your goals.

A talent helps but mainly it's hard work and luck, and the harder you work the luckier you'll get
