I do not believe that congress should have a blank check and increase their own pay. I do believe that 'we the people' should be the ones to increase their wages for a job well done IF it is 'well done'.

It is pretty much decided by the voters. If congress decided to give all of its members a million dollar a year payraise, then it is pretty much certain that any member of congress who voted for this measure would be out the next term.

What you are probably wanting to see is a law or an amendment to the constitution that prohibits lawmakers from deciding their own pay raises, but instead puts it to a vote to the citizens of the U.S. Do do this, you will have to convince several lawmakers that this is the course of action needed so that they can pass the law or get it started in the amendment process. It might be more that difficult to convince more than half of 535 people to give up that kind of power though. (Even more if it has to be done by constitutional amendment because you need a three quarters approval plus approval from the states)

First of all no one in the nation has constructed a iron clad verification check & balence voting system "real proof" from ballot submission to tranmitted numeric results for the nation or in history! For that matter the world! So without it you do not have a democracy, you have a dog & pony show with seeded candidate's! Congress should not have rule & control over their pay or Money/Power/Wealth. It belongs to the legal majority of citizens! I,ve look at some of these comments you people are conqured cowards, Where do you think George Washinton would have been in history if he had obeyed British rule! You morons have to organize & take phyical action with a national militia! Otherwise you will continue to be herded as sheep!

This Congress has been the least effective in history, and they certainly do NOT deserve a pay raise.

Unfortunately, there is not much we can do to prevent them from getting raises outside of signing petitions and writing letters to Congress, telling them what a poor job they have done.

If you think Americans have ANY say at all in what our government does from here on in, then you have NO clue what's in the Patriot Acts, the Military Commissions Act of 2006, or what changes Bush has made to our Constitution.

We have just witnessed one huge power shift over to the presidency. If you open your mouth and complain too loudly, you might just get dubbed an "enemy combatant" and find yourself in military custody, indefinitely.

The fact is, buddy, THERE IS NO MORE 'WE THE PEOPLE'. Bush killed that thought...constitutionally and legally.

Chew on that, and then restate your question. I think you'll already know the answer.

Great question, but no good answers coming.Don't think we can controll anything the congress does, not even voting on it. When Bush got back in this last time I knew it fixed. What a terribly sad world we live in and we can't do a darn thing to improve it.Not as one person or a group of people does our vote mean a thing.. Good luck

There isn't any real way to do it.They do what they want.Once their in - they make the rules !
When the next time rolls around vote for someone else.Maybe they will be out on their butts then. But then again you got someone else doing the same thing.
We should be able to say what they get and what not to get.We vote for them, and should have the right to say no like they do when we want something.

And ain't it the truth !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE tell them that if they vote for a pay raise WE will vote against them in the next election. If enough people tell them that, they'll do without the raise.
