At age 37, I've suddenly noticed my fingernails peeling, dull hair and skin, and the onset of what I think is acne. It's just isolated smallish red bumps that look like pimples without a head. The 'acne' is often on my neck, as well as my face.

I really can't think of anything that changed in my life that would lead to this. I've been working a lot lately (ER nurse) but my job is enjoyable and not too stressful - and I've always gone through spells when I had to work a lot of hours. I've been having difficulty sleeping for some reason. My diet hasn't changed.

Any idea what might cause this, and what to do about it? I'd ask one of the docs I work with, but ER docs don't know much about non-emergency skin things.

Thanks in advance for any answers!

For your nails...try taking in more vitamin C and using a clear-coat nail strengthener.

Dull hair, try moisturizing shampoo and conditioner...along with leave-in conditioner. Try not to blow-dry as much or don't dry it that way completely. Dry it until it's slightly damp.

Skin, I know it sounds odd since you're not that old, but try Olay products. I've been using them since I was 20. I really don't know if they've helped or it's just genetics, but I look to be in my early 20's and people think my teenage son is actually my brother. LOL But anyway, Olay products seem to work the best(at least on me for sensitive skin). Sounds like you might have blotchiness from using products that don't work well with your skin type.

You have to realize that you're hitting that mid-life stage. Changes are bound to occur from your hormones "shifting". It's, unfortunately, inevitable.

The change in complexion and nails could be related to a change in hormones.
