How do you shorten a "smartlink" metal Fossil watch strap?

I need to remove links but can't work out how to.

You see the link with "Fossil" printed on it that you use to open the strap? Well, the links either side of it open in exactly the same way (pulling upwards) and will come off. Just remove as many as you need.
