Engineering and Science subjects have been declining in schools, colleges and universities for many years with fewer students being attracted into these career paths - as such our UK engineering and scientific base is being eroded. The UK Gov't appears not to care as within its own ranks Engineers and Scientists are not valued as highly as Administrators, Lawyers and Accountants.

Engineering and Science are not as glamorous as they used to be. I'm an engineer. Engineering in school was fun. But in the workforce, engineering sucks! It sucks because it's nothing but boiler plate boredom.Trust me - I know - I've been in industry for almost 10 years and I've moved from company to company, experiencing the same dullness in each office space.

I'm recognizing the trend here. As the civilization moves away from it's industrial nature - the industrial jobs get marketed to the nations where such dreary professions are abundant. So, we in the industrial world are very lucky. We're lucky because we get the creative end of the stick. We don't have to sit around and manufacture things in factories and fight fires and maintain machines. Trust me - it's not rocket science. Trust me, it's dull as a pile of bricks.

Working in the industry as also shown me that the most prized professions are those of the sales and marketing people. The people who pull the long hours and keep the machines running or build new factories are not valued. We have very poor qualities of life. If the government is not encouraging these professions, then I'd say - "Good for the government" because it is encouraging people to have better standards of living.

If anyone wants to get into the field of engineering and science - they should only do so if they have a keen interest in it. Because these people can really shine - these people will be able to really create. Otherwise, it would be a waste of good flesh spent in other professions.

Most people are people/people. The people who are good at things like science and engineering are few and far in between. It takes a certain kind of brain to be a lousy person/person and subsequently a fantastic engineer/scientist. So, for the rest of us who have inadvertently gotten suckered into engineering and science because we did pretty well but not as fantastically well as the autistic geniuses - all I have to say is that we're probably better off doing something humanistic.

You're not going to give me a best answer rating - but I thought it would be good to give you my two cents regarding how the world is moving and why we should move along with it.

Good question, and yes we should have continued to carry on these subjects in schools and colleges. We have a proud history, which is second to none in the world, yet even that isn't taught. We do have to try and rescue our countries heritage, as it has, and still is, slipping away from us since we brought in refugees.

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike refugees or anyone, but I am a Born-Again-Christian and it just makes me sad how we have to tip-toe around, "In partcular Muslims", so as not to offend them. The Government is'nt helping either, telling us to accept and regard everyones beliefs. I have always done so. Even when I went abroad, I would go into a Church, Synagouge, Mosque, but my mind would and cannot be changed in any other way when I went to these places of worship. No, my Christian Faith was no problem, when I spoke to those people, through very broken English, but I was never a threat to them, I respected their country, their beliefs, their culture, society etc. Why can't they do that here in the U.K.?

Due to the economic climate across the world, it cheaper for us to import rather than make anything. The strength of solidness of the pound against other currencies makes it more expensive to make things because of a higher standard of living and wages.

There will never be any engineering or secondary tier jobs within the UK.

Long live Arthur Scargill.
