Here are my suggestions.

1. Hobby - develop a hobby to fill your time, especially one that takes you out of the house e.g. hiking, birdwatching. Alternatively some indoor hobbies could have you out of her way, in the shed or the garage (e.g. woodwork, winemaking).

2. Training - take a course. This could be just non-vocational education, for interest only, such as with Adult Education or U3A (University of the Third Age). Alternatively it could be one leading to a qualification, either for the sense of self-achievement or for vocational training that you will use.

3. Business - have your own business. You don't need to have a lot of capital, especially if you give advice (e.g. counsellor, consultant).

4. Volunteer - there will be a volunteer bureau (or similarly titled organisation) that matches volunteers' skills with the needs of local organisations.

5. Allotment - rent a plot from the local authority and get cracking on those winter vegetables now.

I hope this is useful.

so you have just retired - is your wife still working and thats why she has the hump! If she is at home all day too then what does she do? Ok - the first answer you had is a good one. Get yourself a hobby that takes you out more. If she is still working I reckon she'd be jealous of whatever you do on the other hand if she isn't then maybe you could find a hobby to do together. Good luck.

hi start the day with a pot of tea for her and compliment her as well she will slowly get used to you being there.failing that just find a hobby go swimming walking just keep out of her way till you are supposed to be there after work time.take one day where you do all the housework kick her out of the house let her have time for herself make her tea.i would be chuffed if my other half did that,i hate it when he has days off he gets under my feet just sat there watching telly.sounds like shes got a gem with you as you are aware you are annoying her being home.

Your wife doesn't realise how lucky she is. Couldn't you BOTH take up a new hobby or share an interest?
