What you don't know can't hurt you, but it can hurt more to find out later than sooner. Some things ARE better left unsaid, though.

If this is a question about the wisdom of putting your head in a fire-bucket when the outside world seems scary, then clearly it is not a good survival strategy.

Knowing enough to navigate your own way through life is always a good idea, and then knowing some more 'just in case' sounds like a plan to me!

BUT if you obsessively seek out every possible nugget of knowledge- often about what other people think of you etc., then you are bound to unearth stuff that will upset. In that type of situation ask yourself what good the answer can do you, versus the possible hurt it might generate.

Hurt is hurt rather you know or not. Both can be damaging but I am of the school that not knowing can be even more damaging than knowing. Not knowing brings mistrust of everyone because one can't single out the person that produced the hurt. So a person can in effect shut themselves off from everyone. I see this as very damaging because a person afraid of everyone is a person truly alone. So not knowing does not protect you from the pain. In the end all things come out.

Sure, ignorance can be bliss, but this is the psychology category, so here's a proper psych answer.
If your conscious mind doesn't know something that your unconscious mind knows, that knowledge can haunt you through dreams and unexpected slips of the tongue. It can also manifest itself in neuroses. For example, if you fell off a ladder when you were younger, but have forgotten that specific memory (through repression), you may have a seemingly irrational fear of heights without knowing the cause. Only by retrieving this specific memory can your conscious mind deal with your fear and recover from the trauma.

I think knowledge is the key to a happy life because it allows you to make informed choices. I don't agree with that saying and as someone who works as a psychotherapist, I've seen a lack of knowledge hurt people...

well does it hurt you to know that i work in radio or do you just want to know everything!
i mean there is a boarderline if it involves life or someones kids then i say just let me know! but if it is a pointless fact or even prefenting some mixed feelings then it's best not to know!
i mean if you don't know and everything is fine! then why would you need to know to make it YOUR way.. Then if so you would be fighting my battle it's not all about you!
it's not your world it's our world and there are many people in it!
so yeah !
Good luck

Here are a list of "what you don't knows"

- How to be wise
- How to accept situations
- How to have a positive attitude

If you know the above "what you don't knows" then
these "what you don't knows" can be dealt with:

- Your wife cheated on you
- You were adopted at birth
- Nobody loves you

It's always better to know

Depends on what "it" is. If it is something about me that people are saying that may or may not hurt my feelings then I don't really care to know that. But if, for example, a guy is cheating on me, I would want to know so Icould beat his butt, and the sl*t's butt.

THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION... ALTHOUGH IT MAY BE TRUE THAT "WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW CAN'T HURT YOU." IT MAY BE MORE PAINFUL TO FIND OUT LATER WHEN YOU COULD HAVE KNOWN FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. I THINK IT IS BETTER TO KNOW BECAUSE IN THE END NOTHING STAYS A SECRET... TIME REVEALS ALL SECRETS

its not really true i think because in cases dealing with your health or money issues, if you dont know, it's gonna hurt you and if you do find out about them, it may already be too late
