I have a BA in English. It's been 6 years since I've graduated and now I think I'm ready to move on. I would love to work in a museum, but not sure if that jives with linguistic anthropology. Also can anyone suggest good grad schools in New England or New York for Anthropology?

Well anthropology is the study of cultures, often referring to cultures from years ago. Linguistic anthropology would be the study of the languages used in those cultures. So if you were studying English and Linguistic Anthropogist might be interested in studying the English Language as it was hundreds of years ago. An excellent school to go to for anthropology in New York is Cornell Univeristy in Ithica, New York. This is an Ivy League school and very hard to get into but, it is really a great school and a beautiful campus. I hope this helps, take care and good luck.

Linguistic anthropology seeks to understand how words and language both convey and mold a culture. The words a cultural group use can both describe influences on that culture as well as effect the way the people view the world around them. Additionally, linguistic anthropology studies the structure of language.

Linguistic anthropology is that branch of anthropology that brings linguistic methods to bear on anthropological problems, linking the analysis of semiotic and particularly linguistic forms and processes (on both small and large scales) to the interpretation of sociocultural processes (again on small and large scales).
