Not as stupid as you and apparently not as stupid as the other people that have answered. Goldfish actually have a very good memory, do some research, it's good for your brain.

Goldfish are intelligent, at least in relation to their body size. Did you know that goldfish have been trained to do tricks such as swim through hoops and play football (fin ball?) with little toy goalposts and balls? And you're telling me that an animal with no brains can be taught and remember tricks? Right.

To the people who say goldfish are stupid, know what you're talking about before you insult another creature's brainpower ;-)

Wasn't there a scientific report done on this a few months ago? I think they discovered that goldfish were actually quite smart, and could remember how to overcome obstacles and puzzles so that they could get food.

I've had my Goldfish for 2 years and whenever one of the bigger fishes bullies one of the little ones, the little ones hide inside one of the toys where the big fish can't get to them, personally I think thats smart. Also they know when its feeding time, or whenever they see me they all swim to the top of the tank thinking its feeding time, so this whole 2sec memory span is myth.

I've kept fish for years and I can say without a doubt that they do have memories. They are however very stupid. They never get a single question right on the weakest link and they're shite at snooker.

Fish have a very good memory just like any other animal. They are clever enough to stay away from predators and clever enough to go to a certain place of the tank to be fed and also let you tickle their bellies he he. And NO they DO NOT have a two second memory.

Probably not as stupid as some people on Y! Answers.

And the fish probably has a better sense of humour too.

they are not as dumb as people think you can train them to eat food at a specific place in the tank they respond too light and movement of the lid so they are not that dumb, because they don't move when my mum lifts the lid only when I do, why because I talk to them, just say hello boys in a low tone of voice and they come up for food, my mum just puts the food in they ignore it.

They are trainable, have good memory, and can recognize people. I have found them to be some of the most intelligant fresh water fish I have ever kept.
