Except in Arabic countries, where they're still widely used, bidets sort of went out of fashion when toilet paper came along. Many people still like them, though, as it's nice to be able to actually wash yourself rather than just wiping. In Europe, they're starting to come back in some places, for that very reason - it is, and feels, cleaner, plus it would save a lot of trees if we used less paper.

Actually, they are on the rise in newly constructed homes. I recall back in the mid 70's they were including that in many homes, but since the bathrooms were considerably smaller, many removed them for additional dressing space. But now as master baths become quite larger, and more elaborate in detail, there has been a resurgence in bidet installations. Finer hotels offer these in their lavratories as well. and the correct spelling is bidet. I nkow, you are going to flush my response :P

Although you don't see them in public bathrooms, Bidets are still very much selling all over the pace. You can buy one at Home Depot or plumbing supply house. I saw them recently while shopping for faucets online. Go to www.faucetdirect.com. They have a bunch.

The spelling is bidet. They are still around - not common in N. America in public washrooms, but people get them for their homes.

You will still find them in better quality homes, most executive bungalows. Especially in places where there is large European populations.
