Just say the damn pledge. Do you not love your country?

Well let's see, if you don't say the pledge you're saying you don't 'pledge allegiance to the flag' and hence saying you dont' give a rats *** about the country in....sooooo with that being said...why not book a flight to another country? If you can't show respect for the country you live in, why the hell do you live in it? Just suck up the problem for the time being until you can leave the country and not have to worry about that 'silly little thing' called the pledge. It's a matter of respect for what this country represents...and if you resent it..well damn just GET OUT...how hard is that? Does anybody have the right to burn the flag? Nope, so do you think you'll have the right to refuse the pledge? No you'll just be kicked out of class. Fortunately for you they don't make such a thing as a serios offense...but i mean honestly man...if you can't respect the rights you're given in these countries, then you really don't need to be here. That's like telling oprah winfrey to suck my dick and she's giving me 20,000 dollars to go to college. Even the damn immigrants and foreigners show respect by saying the pledge....jeezus man it's only the pledge...if you're atheist just don't say under god....say under...science or whatever.....sheesh......

The pledge is something that you have to feel in your heart. If you dint love this country, then don't say it and don't b**tch. But be respectful of those that do say the pledge.

Many years ago, a religious group had their members stand, but did not put their hand on their hearts and say the pledge. To them, it was worship false idols, the flag. That's fine, but when a Majority wants to do it, don't be a jerk. Stand, and shut up!!

Its your right that was fought and died for to have freedom of speech and the freedom not to be forced to do what you don't want to do. It is also the right of the others, to stand and say the pledge so, dont violate their rights, they are the majority.

You can always move to another country and live by their rules. Of course, many dont have the rights and freedoms we have here so, you may get your feelings hurt even worse.

If your truly 18, spend more time in the English class.

No one can make you pledge allegiance to any country, in school or not. I wouldn't make a big deal about getting in trouble today, just because there was probably some disruption of class due to your refusal, so they would say that was the reason for kicking you out. However, in the future, let your teacher know that you will not be participating in the pledge of allegiance, so that there is no disruption. If they still try to "punish" you, then they are violating your rights. You should speak with the principal or next in line about the issue so that it is handled properly. If that doesn't work, keep taking it up the chain of command or to the ACLU if necessary. That is, if it means that much to you.

Personally, I pledge allegiance to the concepts upon which our nation was founded - rebellion against oppression - and the freedoms our forefathers fought and died for which includes the freedom of speech and the right to disagree with the government!

You cannot get in trouble for quietly and respectfully remaining seated and silent during the pledge; if the school has a rule that says otherwise, that rule is a violation of your civil rights. For those who say you have to show a religious objection I call BS - the pledge is a tool for brainwashing our children into accepting unquestioning loyalty (via coercion and fear of punishment) to a system they should be questioning.

Unfortunately it's true...you do not have to say the Pledge of Allegiance. You do have to remain quiet and respectful of others as they say the pledge.
Just a side note...saying the pledge is a small price to pay for the freedoms that you have in this country. You actions are a slap in the face for all the men and women that helped make this country free.
Also being 18 may make you a legal adult but acting like an adult is more important.

Whether you say the pledge or not I don't think the teacher has the right to kick you out of class. You might want to talk to a lawyer and the Superintendent of Schools to find out for sure what the laws are regarding this situation.

Every country has it's patriotic symbols. To the USA, the pledge is one of them. If you live, study and or work in the USA, you must respect its symbols. If you where born in the USA, then their symbols are YOUR symbols.

No matter what age, you MUST respect the patriotic symbols of the country you are currently in.

Oh, and you complain because you where sent to "the room"? Did you know some countries would have considered that a CRIME and some places could even charge you as a traitor and could terminate your life before your 19.

Lighten up and say your pledge. After all, in the very end, there are worse things in life.

well unfortunately in this day and age... no, you in fact cannot be forced, removed, or discriminated upon for not saying the pledge. Yes, the teacher and school could be in BIG trouble if you and/or your family wanted to persue it. Most schools don't even say the pledge anymore because of this.

But seriously, were you just trying to stir up a bit of excitment for class, or do you really have different beliefs than the pledge states. You would need to prove you have a different religious beliefs.

The better question is, What is your problem with saying the Pledge? The United States protects you daily, and you are blessed to wake up every morning as an American citizen. It's not good enough to simply tell us that "I didn't say the Pledge so they punished me -- waaah!"

Atleast have the spine to tell us WHY you refuse to say it. (This I gotta hear.)
