We use Dell PCs at work and everyone of them has been nothing but reliable.
I can't fault them in any way other than their delivery times. They quote unrealistic times and then make up excuses as to why the machine isn't ready. But if you're prepared to wait then you'll have no regrets.

I bought a dell computer about 2 years ago, and while the package looked great, and I thought I was getting value for moeny,it went wrong about a year and a half later and totally crashed. It wasn't a virus or anything, it was a technial fault, and I lost everyhting on my computer, some of which was very important.
I was appalled at their customer services. I phoned them and the operator couldn't speak a word of english and I was on the phone about an hour(to a premium rate number, i might add!), and when I finally got the guy to understand what I was saying, he said they would come out and look at it in about 2weeks, for an extortionate amount of money as I have gone passed the date on my garantee!I told them not to bother.
I went to a independent computer expert and found out that my computer had to be replaced. I would not reccommend Dell at all, In my opinion they are a disgrace. I then went out and brought a Packard Bell, which is fine. x

I'm using Dell Inspiron and found quite reliable for last 2 years. It had some Power pack problems in few models released in 2003-2004.
Worth buying a Dell... I'll prefer Dell over IBM.

Have had a Dell Inspiron for over a year. No real problems except for the software that they load up, why do they have to over ride some of the windows stuff and make it their own?
I would recommend them and most likely buy from them again.

if you get one, be sure to pay the extra cash for the extended warranty. my hard-drive crashed 2 days after the 90 day warranty was up.
when I called customer service, it took me 2 hours to get to a live person. when I finally did get someone, he didn't know how to help me & put me back in the phone loop @ the end of the line.
my opinion is that Dell sucks.

My Mother bought one of their laptops last year, and it's pretty good. Connected to the wireless network straight away and has, so far, not had any problems with it - so has not, so far, needed to contact customer services.
I think it was the cheapest one they had at about £400, and she's not regretted it.
I guess it depends what you're after, but she only uses it to look at the internet, access email and write letters and it does those jobs perfectly.
