Black to white are shades...however when you add white to any color in the specrum it becomes a tint. gray and brown are neutrals. I have heard in a prism that white is all of the colors combined together.

They are called values or something like that, don't really know the name in English. They're not colors because they are light and shadow, the intensity with which a color is represented in a color wheel. Try checking it out in the site below. It is very interesting!!!!!!
