Quite the contrary my dear. If you are christian, and pattern yourself off of your patiarch Jesus of Nazereth you most certainly should be liberal. Jesus was a pacifists, a humanitarian, perhaps the very first hippy.
Understand that a policy like abortion would be one that Jesus would never endorse, but I highly doubt he would endorse war or the death penalty either.
After all was it not Jesus who preached turn the other cheek, do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and stood firm in the fact that we are all god's children. Human life was important to him as well as the happiness of individuals.
You must look at the life of Jesus and take from it and pattern yourself after it. Should this land you in the liberal camp so be it. Should you become a conservative, so be it. But stand strong in your conviction and become informed on the life and ideas of Jesus and you shall not go wrong in your faith nor in the real world.

It's a distortion of the truth as a result of partisan politics of the present era.
I have drifted conservative and liberal in my political leanings during my lifetime. What has remained constant is my dedication to Christian principles. I may be for Nixon, then against Carter, then for Reagan, then for Clinton, then against Bush, but I am always for God.
Currently, most the extremists here would call me a liberal, although I am actually a moderate pragmatist.

The conservatives have done an excellent job of aligning themselves with the fundamentalist element in the US, unfortunately. Somehow, they've also been the loudest religious supporters. People like the UUs or the Quakers, who are at the least more likely to be moderate, if not left-leaning, tend to be quieter than, say, Jerry Falwell.
In the blackest, meanest part of my heart, when I'm most upset at the terrible things coming from the Christian Right (which is neither), I suspect it's because the more moderate or liberal Christians are busy actually living Jesus' word, while the fundies just saw the word "judgment" and went with it. You see, the moderate/left Christians I know, even if they are politically active, tend to be quieter about their beliefs and tend to fight for social justice and against poverty, as Jesus told his followers both that it was better to pray in a closet than to trumpet your godliness and that they had better help out the least of us. Fundies seem to ignore all of that, and all of the bits about removing the motes from their own eyes, in favor of loud proclamations about how gays are from Satan and won't someone please think of the children and ban that awful Harry Potter book? But then, I get bitter.

Patois, the Gods salute you. You said right and you said it best!
Those people are the most ignorant and evil themselves. I hear evangelicans say this every Sunday on TV with a nasty smirk and a knowing grin. Can you imagine that they think this is true Christian behavior. Christ will never approve!
These are the people who know quite well that what they're saying is at best an exaggeration or a down-right lie. But they say it anyway, because they know that by associating the word 'liberal' with negativity most slow-minded people will be influenced to dislike liberals or Democrats.
In other words they are not making assumptions they are deliberately tarnishing anyone who disagrees with them. They are stereotyping or labelling others to make it easier for their kind to dismiss the opposition without having to think it through themselves.
Lastly, its not that repukes do not commit every kind of sin, they just don't want others to sin at all.

I don’t assume that a democrat cannot be a Christian. Christ did not limit his grace to anyone. In fact he had the greatest problem with the legalist. However, having said that, most Christians believe that abortion is wrong, and abortion is a platform of the democratic party. Therefore, most people assume that if a person is a democrat they can’t be Christian.

Christ was a Liberal. The miracle of feeding the 5,000?
Ancient public assistance.
"Look at the lillies of the field..."
Are greed and insults Christian? I think not.
Faith, Hope, and Charity.
"Whosoever does good for the least of them, does it for me."
Is this budget cuts for college students and the old and ill??
"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into heaven."
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
Is this difficult? Yes, to do. It costs money, you see.

Republicans have tried to corner the market on religion, and the democrats have let them do this. It's a shame, because most conservatives are all about the consolidation of wealth and intolerance of others. Jesus was a liberal, after all.

Because of silly books like 'Godless' by Ann Coulter. And this ignorant view is being supported and promoted by Fox News.
But what is very clear is that 'Honest George' is far from being a real Christian.
