Democrat majority might stop Bush on tax cuts and social security privatization— but might force him to find a way out of Iraq.

Excellent. Major Democrats are indeed calling for an end to the war- Sen. Kerry and Rep. Murtha, for instance. The Iraqis don't want us there; we, the American people, don't want to be there. We do need to get a plan in place to withdraw, because we certainly aren't doing any good.

Hurray on the tax cuts and social security things, too. I want some social security when I'm old, dammit, and I want my country to have a strong economy. You can't have a strong economy when you've also got a record debt load. China has us by the balls right now, guys, and if the Dems can stop that, then yay!

The only good thing about a Democratic win in this coming election is the fact that a checks and balance system will be put back in place.

Let me stress how luck, we in America are, that the Republican party is currently being run by a field of morons. The Republicans by all rights should have been able to put away the democrats for good over the last six years. However their greed and corruption leaked through their false promises and propaganda.

On the other hand, the democrats are no more qualified to run this country then the republicans. The democrats have no plan, have no leadership, and are not unifed in philosophy.

A virtual quagmire will result on the beltway should the Democratic party win out. However one might argue that this already exists.

As far as the war is concerned, the only way we get out clean, is if the United States pulls out for a reason that is non-defeatist. To leave because of casulties or the imminent civil war would be catastophic. A serious afront by the newly elected Iraqi Government is perhaps the only excuse we can use to leave with a clean slate. Anything short of that will be disaster.

There seems to be two different movements going on in congress over the Iraq war. Besides the Democrats wanting a new course of action in Iraq, some Republicans are starting to call for a new plan of action as well.
Bush himself is starting to say that the policy toward Iraq may need to be altered. I'll wager Bush will unveil a new grand plan for Iraq some time before the elections. Of course he'll tell America that he needs his supporters in congress reelected to make the plan work. If the Democrats win a majority in congress and don't approve his new plan, he'll be able to blame the new Democratic congress for a failure in Iraq.

I'm not so sure about that. If we remember, when Nixon won his first term he promised to withdraw from Viet Nam, then what did he do? Bombed Viet Nam! He won his second term with the same promise and the troops still remained in Viet Nam for a while longer. Politicians say things to win elections. If we remember, many democrats (ahem, John Kerry) were for this war a few years ago. The people are the ones sick of our troops dying and not being home so who's to say these are not just empty promises? There are democrats genuinely wanting us out of Iraq, but how do we know the ones with the most power are genuine?

The quickest way to end any war is to give up.

Is that ending it or losing it?

I assume a Democrat win would make prosecuting the war more difficult. If they had the votes to sustain a veto, they could simply cut off funding, ending the war immediately.

The Democrats are telling the actuality. the foremost be conscious right here's: "ASAP"! They comprehend, as all of us might want to comprehend, that we in basic terms can't pull our troops out in one day! no longer conceivable & completely irresposible to say something else. With over 70% of the inhabitants of this united states wanting the conflict to be over, what do you assume them, or any self-respecting Republican, to say? in this difficulty, we ought to take it on a daily basis, no you will be able to truly promise something to us that they could be able to provide. the perfect we may be able to desire for is someone difficulty-free sufficient to inform us that they'll do each and every thing conceivable to end the killing of our troops, who did not belong there in the first position, & attempt to locate a conceivable answer between those who do no longer sense that we, in the west, might want to all be killed because we do not settle for his or her faith. There are those operating for the Presidency who've made sound concepts for this very variety of action. possibly if extra human beings did a touch analyze into who's operating, you would possibly want to locate who those anybody is & there does no longer be a lot communicate about Clinton & Obama. in basic terms because they have the most money to run a marketing campaign, doesn't cause them to the perfect human beings to vote for to change into President. Take an outstanding seem at who's endorsing those human beings, perhaps that furnish you with a clue! both activities have human beings like this operating for workplace. those that do not replace their speech with the hot pollof what we are paying for this week. Take a extra constructive seem at countless something of them.

Won't happen. We are there for the long haul. In 2008 if a Democrat wins the White House, then they can try to withdraw from Iraq.......but they wouldn't do it. Sounds good in theory, looks like cowardice from the enemies point of view. Osama Bin Laden already has said the Americans are weak, they cannot stand the sight of blood.

You are right about Iraq. But, the dems won't do that unless they are sure about popular support. I think the biggest thing to come out of a democratic victory, if Bush doesn't figure out how to steal this one, is the dems holding all committee chairmanships. They then could hold hearings with subpeona power to call the bad guys to testify under oath. And they could even impeach Bush and Dick "the darkness spreads out before him" Cheney.
