I'm not an expert, but I understood there is already an alternative environmentally friendly substitute for oil. It's just that the oil companies are keeping it under wraps because it will affect their profits. I expect they are paying off the research and developers to shut up.

The biggest oil dependent state state is the US. The whole US economy is dependent on oil and the so called petro dollar. Other countries have their economy based on their currency but the US dollar is worthless coompared with many other countries. When oil runs out then the US economy will be among the first to go under - hence the war in Iraq. The Iraq war is about bolstering oil supply and thus the US economy.

Mogseye says they will sponge off the West - it will be the US sponging off many European countries.

My brother-in-law works for BP as a Health & Safety analyst once a well has been drilled. They have just drilled 5 wells off Venenzuala. There will be enough oil coming out off there, he tells me, to last 60-80 years, or around 40,000 barrels a day. He also informs me the average American uses the equivilent of 250 barrels a year, for the car, food, transportation, the home etc. So times that by 300,000,000. Just hope the Yanks dont claim the drilling rights-as they are contesting right now-there wont be much left for us Brits!!!.

We'll all be ******* and that includes the US. The two percent of the wealthiest in this country will be living somewhere else all the while laughing at those of us left in the US, which will be considered a Third World country by then.

It would be nice to think that they will experience a reversal of the present situation by becoming reliant on the West for water supplies - including purification and desalination plants. Perhaps the West could then form the equivalent of OPEC (WatPEC?) and keep adjusting the price of water in order to keep the Middle East on its toes.
Oh, well, wishful thinking!
