There is no reason in the modern age to hunt and kill whales.

Iceland was wrong to restart whale hunting. They claim it's for sceintific research. A very bad excuse.

Today there are no reasons to hunt whales as products that used to be made from whales can be made without killing whales. If all the whales were killed off, as in extinct, the food chain would be unbalanced, and there would be an overpopulation of plankton and certain fish species. This would then cause an increase in other organisms, and cause others to die out. You cannot remove one species from an ecosystem and expect everything to remain as it is.
