Here is a little secret ... All gas is the same for all vendor from the source. So, the base gasoline does not vary. However, most retailers (Mobil, Shell, Exxon, etc.) then take the base gas and add "additives". These additive are what you are wondering about.
I get the best results with Shell, although Chevron is pretty good too.

I have been told on numerous occassions that all reputable gasoline brands receive thier gas from the exact same source and that the differences come from the detergents which are added. However, the amount of detergent in a brand of gas is so minimal (been told it's around a gallon per 18 wheeled tanker)that thier is no noticable difference. Federal law mandates those detergents in all gasolines. I believe these claims because to this day I can't tell a single difference in any vehicles performance due to a change in brand of gasoline, though the separate distributor and sellers would all like you to believe that thier's is somehow better.

Just a guess, but Amoco (sp?) has a 94 octane gasoline that has no additives that can clog fuel injectors. It actually looks like water.
