Oh this is a hard one! I like both but if you want to compare them by books then I'd have to go with Harry Potter. I find the Harry Potter books to be a lot more interesting than the Lord of the Rings books. They have more adventure and excitement. The Lord of the Rings book seem to get boring in certain parts and I found them tedious to read.

My favorite Harry Potter book would have to be the fourth one. This one had it all, action, adventure, mystery, suspense, romance, and of course the return of Voldemort. By far the best HP book so far.

Now if you want to compare by movies then definitely LOTR. The movies are what made me like the story. The HP movies are okay, but they leave to much out and change things around that should be left alone.

I think women like Harry Potter better because there is more of an air of romance. Lord of the Rings are great movies, but I think they appeal to men more due to the historic and battle content.

For me, the Lord of the Rings (and I've seen all three) were just a little bit boring and didn't hold my interest as much as Harry Potter did.

I agree Harry Potter, read all the books and got all the dvd's, Lord of the Rings YAWNNNNN wondered when it would ever end.At least in Harry Potter each film is a separate story from the last but with Lord of the Rings it is a continual. I like all the HP films have'nt got a fav.

I like Harry Potter a lot better. I never really got into the Lord of the Rings, because the books didn't really keep me entertained. I'm not going to pick a favorite HP movie yet, because we haven't seen them all. I don't think I will pick a favorite until all 7 have been released.

better books: HP
better movies: LoTR

The Harry Potter books are far more reader-friendly. Lord of the Rings often reads like a history book with far too much back story. Half the fun of HP is analyzing the books and trying to figure out the back story that Jo isn't telling us and trying to solve the mysteries she lays out for us.
The Lord of the Rings movies are a million times better than the Harry Potter movies. Both movies couldn't have fit in all the plot points of the books, but LotR stays truer to the tone and spirit of the books. LotR are artistically gorgeous films, while HP are just so-so in that area. And acting, especially considering Elijah Wood vs. Dan Radcliffe, Ian McKellen vs. Michael Gambon-- is way better in LotR.

I pick lord of the rings. The Harry Potter movies are getting terrible, they no longer follow the books. I refused to see the 4th

Although i'm 48 years young, I love Harry Potter but i'm not a big fan of Lord of the Rings.
HP is a lot more fun and easier to watch than LOTR.
LOTR has too many fights and battles and it drags on and on and on.
As far as which HP i like best.......i don't know....i love them all. My only complaint is that they are not long enough and they miss so much out compared to the book.
I wish there wasn't such a long gap between the release of each film, and i wish the next book would hurry up and be released.
