I am 22 years old. I am 5'1" and weighed right at 128 when I got pregnant. I am 10 1/2 weeks and have gained about 3 pounds. When should I start showing? I don't know when I need to get maternity clothes. Help! :)

It doesn't hurt to start getting and wearing them soon. The clothes will grow with you. It varies by woman when it comes to showing, but normally you start to show around 4 months.

About when you hit the beginning of your second trimester you'll probably need maternity pants before you need maternity shirts. I recommend having a pair or two around, as you'll wake up one day, or come home from work one day, and realize you don't have anything comfortable! Another option is to wear a loose-fitting dress with maternity hosiery (available at any maternity store). I used that maternity hose very early on, as I didn't like anything around my belly at all!

Oh, one other thing: At maternity stores, there are these pillows you can strap to your belly to simulate what you'll look like in 3-6 months, so you don't buy something that won't fit you next week! I know, sounds ridiculous, but it actually was very helpful!

Also, as I recall, normal weight gain picks up after the first trimester, but ask your doc/midwife what's appropriate for you. Good luck!

I'm also 5'1" and weighed 132#. I started fattening immediately. But didn't get my belly until about week 14 or 15 and bought some maternity clothes, mainly just pants. But it has been just this week that the guys at the office have noticed my belly because my boobs were growing faster!!!lol and still stick out further than my baby bump, at 23 weeks.

There really is no way to answer this question. Every woman is different as is every pregnancy. I didn't start to show much until I was about 7 months pregnant, but my sister-in-law looked huge by the time she was 3 months pregnant. We are close to the same size and that was the first pregnancy for both of us, so that just proves that you really never know. I don't know how much my sister-in-law gained, but I only gained about 15lbs while I was pregnant and within 2 weeks of having my daughter I was 15lbs less than my pre-pregnancy weight. I was horrible during my pregnancy and ate whatever I wanted too.

Go get a book called " what to expect when you are expecting" by Heidi Murkoff. It's the pregnancy bible and will help with all these questions. I refer to it almost daily right now and I am due Feb 2, 2007. Your question as well as many others that you would not expect is in there. It's excellent in describing all of these little things that worry moms and help distinguish when something is "normal" or not.
Good Luck!

Every body type is different. You might not show until your 4th or 5th month. I would just wait until your clothes are getting uncomfortable and then purchase the maternity clothes.

you get maternity clothes when your clothes are not comfortable anymore and dont fit. As this is your first pregnancy you will start showing later than woman who have previously been pregnant. good luck

get maternity clothes when yours don't fit anymore. It's not rocket science.

You may show at around 14 weeks. but it's different for everyone.

Don't worry, your baby will pop when it is time. In the meantime, keep eating healthy, drink milk, and take your vitamins! You will show as the baby grows, just dont try to diet while you are pregnant.
