It is the best source of Vitamin D, so yes

The answer is definitely yes, as long as we take care not to burn. Vitamin D is produced by UV from the sun and these days it is one vitamin that many people are short of, as it is actually quite hard to eat enough. It is recognised that Vitamin D is important in among other things the suppression of tumour cells which can go on to develop into cancer.

The use of complete sun block prevents us from producing our own vitamin D.

The medical article I read regarding this some time ago suggested more than 15 min/day, but obviously it will depend on the skin type.

Today we can obtain Vitamin D from other sources, most notably milk products.

In the past, however, our most important source of vitamin D was to manufacture it in our bodies using sunlight as input.

About 15 minutes of sun per day is considered sufficient.

This need for sunlight is the reason humans developed lighter skin color as they migrated to higher latitudes. It is also why northern European mothers made their kids go out and play in the sun.

My father died of skin cancer. So I'm careful. However, I don't think that suncream can be very good for you either, so I limit my children's time in the sun. I never allow them to burn although they are all a bit tanned.
I'm a South African - lots of sun. We used to roast in the sun every day until our skin peeled off. I would never do that again.
I think that moderation is the key.

The sun is necessary for us, because its UV rays help our body produce Vitamin D. The scare about cancer overshadowed that fact, yet the sun remains necessary. Just be careful, as with anything else. :)

J'aimerai bien mais à Paris il n'y a pas beaucoup de soleil. Dommage c'est un peu comme à Londres mais en moins pire.

Yes, the sun gives you vitamin d and that is good for you. Overdoing it however will result in cancer
