What was the reason?

I'm asking because last night, my 9mo old daughter was vomiting insanely. Scared me to death. I gave her some mac n cheese. Was it that or some sort of virus? It seemed to happen after I gave her the mac n cheese. Need some experienced moms here.

Mine did around that time too. It is so scary when they do that. You're used to seeing a little dribble but when they start wretching...it makes your heart stop for a minute. If she has diarrhea too it could be a virus, or she could have eaten too much (pasta swells in the stomach) or eaten something bad...maybe something you didn't notice. Watch her closely over the next 48 hours. Give her 8-16 oz pedialyte if she continues to vomit or has diarrhea. If it lasts more than a couple of days or is accompanied by high fever (102.5 and higher) or rash on the torso call your doc and make an appointment immediately...because those are signs of strep.

Have you given her mac and cheese before? If she has eaten it before and has never had a problem with it she might of just eaten to much. If she seemed fussy earlier in the day or had a slight fever and the runs then you could say she might of had sometype of virus. If she doesnt have the runs and is no longer throwing up then she probably just ate to much or didnt chew it up good enough. It might be a good idea to smash it up for her the next time she eats mac and cheese because the noodles can be a little hard for little ones to work with in thier mouths and will tend to just swollow them whole and it could mess with her tummy. But if she is chewing good then no big deal. I know one of my boys was real good at eating everything real young and the other one had alittle bit more trouble. All kids are different and some will do just fine with all foods and others no. I know some people are proabably going to tell you that you shouldnt be giving her mac and cheese at 9 months but like I said all babies are not the same and your little one might do great with table foods. It could be that it just didnt agree with her last night and thats it . I know there have been many times in my growing up when I have eaten something that just didnt agree with me and up it came even tho nothing was wrong. I would just keep an eye on her and make sure she doesnt have a temp. If it were anything serious she would definitly let you know since she would be very fussy or have a temp or the runs. Throwing up is your tummys way of getting stuff out of there it doesnt want in there or it has been overloaded. She how she does for breakfast but give her something mild and easy to digest and no milk since milk will irritate her tummy. Give her some fruit juice this morning like pear. Hope she is feeling better.

My son did this once - it was after I had given him a bottle of formula (he was use to breat milk) - he vomitted everywhere very violently - scared me half to death. I thought it was the formula and was too scared to try it again. However, about a month later I HAD to give him formula - and he was fine - so whether it was the formula, the fact it was too cold, or somthing else - I guess I'll never know. Maybe it was her meal - has she ever had it before? You'll know if it was a virus - they'ld be other symptoms - general illness and fever - if she seems fine apart from the vomitting it prob was the food - but it may have been a one off - you'll prob not know. Leave it a few weeks and try this food again - if she has same reaction - its def the food.

My son did this after i fed him turkey n gravy. It was the most projective vomiting i have ever seen. I was so scared, he only did it once and i thought it was the food but i took him to the doctor and he had a sinus infection. It was the drip in his throat that made him vomit. This has happened again in the past few days. I took him to day care and he threw up a lot so they called me to pick him up, he did not throw up again until two days later when i brought him back to day care. I brought him to the doctor and they treated him for a stomach virus, but he never threw up after this. It has been two days and i brought him to day care today, we will see. I think he is faking it to come home from school, hehehe. I would not worry about it if she is having plenty wet diapers and not continuing to vomit. If she does call the doctor but they will probably tell you that she has a stomach virus and to give her pedialite and formula.

No, it wasn't a virus. Get her to her pediatrician as soon as possible. That kind of vomiting can be serious. 9 months old is too young to have mac&cheese.

My daughter did when she was a baby, and she had a virus. But yours could be because of giving her mac and cheese. That contains cows milk and you aren't supposed to give baby's cow milk until they are over 12 months. Or like my daughter did, she could have a virus.

Not to scare you,but she may have had a seizure. If she had been startled, she would have jolted once, then quickly come too.15 seconds of shaking raises concerns.Did she seem to have stiff muscles and a blank stare in her eyes while she was shaking? You should definitely take her to the Dr and explain what happened, give them all the info you can think of including her first time eating bananas.

It sounds like it could be several different things:
1) food poisoning
2) food allergy
3) lactose tolerance
There are lots of factors to consider. You might want to keep a food journal for her. This way if this happens again, you might be better able to pin point what is causing he to vomit.

She could be allergic to dairy products, take her to the pediatrician to be sure. Be careful when feeding a baby, maybe you need to chew her food up for her. She may have teeth but you should still give babies food they can handle. Keep her on simple foods that are not too seasoned. Apple sauce, mashed potatoes, etc.
