We do when we vote for a party. We vote for their policies, don't we? we also have MPs that should listen to their constituents and they can vote for an against certain policies.
So we do indirectly influence the government public spending.

You never see the Labour party skimp when it comes to paying themselves. I remember well the Scottish Parliaments top ten expenses claims - the top nine were Labour members. Nothing's too good for them!

Oh and when the latest extimates on the hole in pensions now amounting to some £100 billion you won't find better pensions than the ones Tony Blair and Gordon Brown have awarded themselves.

Hypocrits ? Yes I think so.

We do have a say on what our taxes pay for - we vote on the manifestos of political parties.

Trouble is, once they get control of the purse strings it's a case of give them an inch and they take a yard!

The only issue that all parties ever agree on is the increase in their super-state-pensions and their salaries and expenses.

They should try living in the real world like the rest of us.

You have a vote.
I've long been of the opinion that politicians should be paid no more than £20k a year with no perks.
Make them use public transport, NHS, live on a normal estate etc so that they live in and nderstand the problems their electorate have to put up with.
We might then see some changes to crime, education health etc rather than just waffle.

Good grief!! That would put the power into the hands of a few looney left and liberal and right wing activists who would be worse than the idiots we elect to take these decisions for us. Would you trust a load of boozed up junkie yobs to spend your money or the elected Representatives. OOPS they are one and the same.

Yes, and yes. I also believe that any raises and increases in benefits to members of congress should be voted on by the public otherwise there is no oversight. You have to have checks and balances.

Yes, but it would be impossible on certain policies if each of us have a say, nothing will ever be in place as we have all got different opinions and values.

Well, theoretically, in America at least, we do have control over such things. In reality, however, it is just an illusion created to help us remain calm. Calm cattle are easier to control.

No, if everyone did, all the money would be wasted. Let the government decide. They know what's best.
