I have no outstanding morgage on the house, It worries me because i want to leave my house to my niece. My late husband left no will. We were married when we brought the house. Does the house naturally go to me although the deeds are in my husbands name or should i have the deeds changed.

Your husbands estate should be settled first. His will may give all to you or in most states the spouse gets all if there is no will. See a lawyer and draw up your will with them they will make sure all liens and accounts have been taken care of. This will cost a little bit but in the long run you and your kin can be assured its done right.

Dead people cannot own...see a lawyer and have the deed changed to your name. It's a simple procedure. And while you are at the lawyer's, see about making a will of your own!

The property is yours. You need to have the deed changed to your name. With no will, you may have to go through the court to do this.

A lawyer will give you a free consultation.
