WOW excellent question!!! I think affirmative action was ONCE a good thing. It allowed other qualified people to enter the work force as discrimation was heavy. However I think affirmative action has outlived it's purpose. It has not caused reverse discrimation against your average white joe. I think it should be done away with.. Whomever is the best qualified should get the job and I don't care what color you are. If I owned a company I should not be forced to hire someone less qualified because they are a woman, a black, a hispanic or whatever

The intent of affirmative action was benign; it was an attempt to redress the wrongs of Jim crow. Unfortunately these types of programs are freighted with lower expectations and the target population is taught that somebody else is responsible for their (mis)fortune. Lower expectations, of course, yield degenerate behavior. W. E. DuBois and Booker T. Washington both leavened their messages with the expectation that African Americans would actively seek out education and self-improvement ie. take responsibility for their own fates. There are four easily understood strategies for remaining above the poverty line: 1. Complete high school. 2. Avoid having out-of-wedlock children 3. delay marriage until at least age 21 4. Get a job. People who accomplish these four things have a 94% chance of living above the poverty line.

It is racism. Straight up.

In it's day, this tactic was required to battle discrimination. When you use racism to defeat discrimination, you are still left with an evil. Then we wonder why it is so bad now...

Here is an actual event. My family has been in the Postal Service for three generations. I went to the Post office where my uncle worked to check it out. That day, they held an interview for an open position. There were about 15 people waiting for the initial briefing. The Post Master came in and started his brief when a Black Female entered the room. The Postmaster stopped the brief, excused himself and left the room. A few minutes later he returned and told everyone the position was filled and aske the woman to follow him. I was dumbfounded. When i asked my uncle what happened he just shook his head and said that she was a black female so they had to hire her.

No interview, questions, nothing. That is just stupid.

Affirmative Action needs to go away.

It's a failed policy. I know a better way just set up a policy where learning institutions would accept a certain percentage of individuals based on family income and having at least a B average. Since a higher percentage of minorities have lower family income that would be one qualification not base on skin color. Second if they have a B average they would also be qualified this would eliminate the resentment factor and give deserving students a chance.

It's brought us down to our most mundane era ever. Why should someone get preference for a job because they are a so-called minority?

The City where I worked was forced by a dim bulb liberal federal judge to institute two civil service lists for Police and Fire. For every 3 hires off the supposed non-minority list, they were forced to hire 2 from the minority list, most of whom had to be culled out in the academies. They were turning away people with scores in the high 90s and hiring idiots with scores in the 60s. Our training budget was shot to hell because there's some things that you just can't teach to someone with the IQ of a clam. It dragged both departments down and it wasted tons of taxpayer money.

Affirmative action makes it legal for minorities to practice discrimination. It is a great hypocritical scam job designed to keep minorities in their place while making them think they have an advantage over everybody else, and it unfairly punishes the rest of society by subjecting them to the whims and deviations of a few minority agitators.

It has brought with it a lot of discontent, the hiring of people who are not qualify then next to impossible to get rid of,they just kind of let them sit around for eight hours,as long as they don't bother no one else, their answer is always they having train me,isn't that what the schooling was to do.
