As a NASCAR driver, I can tell you that the firesuit I use is a lightweight 2 layer Nomex suit and it's not too bad. When I wear it with the nomex underwear, it can get a bit warm, seeing as how the temperature in the racecar gets to be about 150 degrees or so. It also helps to have a cool box and a fresh air system that goes to your helmet. Now for the seat question. Every driver I know and race with has a custom fitted seat, so there is some level of comfort , considering we're in them for a 500 mile race. They don't compare at all to the seats in a production car. The seatbelt system is totally different and so are the materials from which the seats are made. Race seats are made to protect the ribs, shoulders, and head, whereas a regular car seat is not. Instead of a three point seatbelt, we have a five or six point safety harness that NASCAR has to approve before we even strap in to get on the track. I hope this helps. Any more questions, feel free to email me.

Racing suits are hot! But not compared to how hot a fire can be without one. Nomex underwear just gives you an additional layer of fire protection. This will give you a few more seconds to get out of the car and get the fire out. As far as seats go...my seat is very comfortable. So comfortable, I fell asleep in it while waiting on the grid at Orlando Speedworld last year. (With the engine idling!)

Well racing seats are not ment to be too confortable, their main focus are to keep the driver safe, they are a little stiff but they offer great support as to if a crash should occur, a family member of mine owns a porsche targa 911 that he races in the new jersey nothern porsche racing club, not only are the seats not too great but you also have to wear a different type of racing seat belts that hold your whole upper body so that you wont fly out of the car if you crash, the seats differ in that they dont have to be big and bulky because they dont need to be powered so that they can recline or heat also they are not made of leather normal car seats are more or less made to keep the driver confortble, as for racing suits price is the answer the more expensive you go the better, i race motorcycles and sometimes i borrow my uncles porsche the suits are expensive but very confortable, they also offer great breathability and in case of fire they protect you very very well, as for motorcycle racing suits they help in case you fall the suit takes most of the beating when you fall and scrape your body.

I normally wear shorts and a t-shirt under my racing suit. They are not very comfy and they get very warm. But after awhile you get used to it. As far as racing seats go they are not comfy at all. There only purpose is to keep the driver safe along with the racing harnesses that go with the seat. Very different from a normal car seat.

Racing seat are wonderful! They fit you & snug you!
Suits are comfortable unless it is hot...then you are hotter...
Driver often wear cool suits under their suit. Cool water runs thru plasic tubes around the chest to keep some circulating blood cool.
God help you if it malfunctions, then you steam...

The seats are a tight fit to protect the driver. When you are stapped in you are almost in a cacoon. As for the drivers suits they are flame retadant and they are not much heavier thad most denim that you wear. The trap body heat and until you get use to them they are very warm and uncomfortable. But when you get use to them they are like wearing a winter outfit.
