why cant the greens seem to find a spokesman who speaks from the heart.
in an age of bland characterless politicians with nothing much to choose between them, isnt it ethical integrity that people are crying out for?
isnt it time we had representitives who were concerned about the welfare of all living beings and had a global outlook instead of always looking at narrow economic advantage?
wouldnt it be good to follow a party or leader who made us feel good about being human, instead of feeling our leaders were colluding with bankers and industrialists to desecrate the planet on our behalf?

Unfortunately, if a candidate is going to do anything to break down the 2 party system, that candidate is going to come from the middle, not the sides. The Greens, whether their actual policy says it or not, will always be easily painted as far left.

What would break the 2 party system would be a charismatic figure that is not associated with politics, who steps in and creates his own party. This could easily happen at the Presidential level, where voters are very disaffected with the 2 parties. Really good organization would be necessary to make it filter down into the other offices.

The Green Party has been put into effect by the Republicans to manipulate the outcome of Democratic votes. It can throw an election off by just a few thousand votes.

Its not a leader that they need, its policies that the majority want and so far that has not happened. Its OK saying we need this that and the other but you have to have a sensible alternative to the proposals and this is what is missing! Until they realise that to take the public with them they need to be realistic in their suggestions they will stay a little party.

The only thing the greens will ever do is "sweep" the mess left by others, they will never be in power because the commercialisation of everything except oxygen will never allow it to happen. It is your fault and mine, I still use all the thing that make my life easier regardless of any consequences. Guilty as charge.

No.
Because the Greenies are whackos.
They want to shut down factories and jobs.
They would cause starvation so they could look at a tree.
And you'll never catch a Greenie out planting trees, like the rest of us do.

that is what i hope for canada. as for america i agree with the first poster, difficult with this 2 party system.

but over the last decade the Greens in canada have been gaining in popularity steadily. but not because of it leadership. they still lack someone with character and presence. they are gaining because other parties are getting to old stagnant and corrupt...

a deffinate leader would boost them with no doubt. but you still have to deal with the baby boomer vote, they dont trust youngins' nearly enough and so will swing the vote to someone more their age...

poor me, i have to rage at political idleness for another decade before the baby boomers die off and my generation can sway the vote...
