There is no gateway drug. That's just a made up term that people against legalising pot use since they can't come up with any other reason.

I think that the answer is neither, it is just that the same people who are drinking alcohol and smoking weed are more inclined to try other drugs. I don't think the use of these two drugs has any relation to using other drugs. If that were the case the caffeine in coffee could be considered a gateway drug to meth.

I would have to say alcohol, it's easy to find, and it eventually quits giving you the desired affect, so you tend to look for something that makes you feel as good as your first buzz!
Pot just kind of mellows you out, so your not chasing that first buzz.

Alchohol , I have known many more alchoholics than I have pot-heads . Marijuana should be a legal substance then it could be studied for more medicinal properties .It is already used for chemotherapy patients and people with glaucoma , what else can it do .

alcohol most definetly, they like the buzz off alcohol but look for something that doesn't give them such a hangover!

I think that depends on which one you start to use first, from persoanl ecperience it was weed, I am clean now, but basically everyone in my family did it so I tried it
