Leave the steristrips in place.
It would be wise to check your temperature (to see if you have an infection brewing). Also is the area around the wound red, inflammed. painful? Does the yellow fluid have an odour to it? All of this are signs that the wound might be infected.
I would advise you to continue seeking advice from the practice nurse. If that fails contact the hospital (ward) that did the surgery for advice.

No, do not remove the steri strips. They are suppose to fall off by themselves. However, be sure to report that you're having drainage because this doesn't sound right. After a week, the skin should be approximated (growing together) and there should be little if no drainage. This could indicate an infection. So tell your nurse about it. Check your temperature to see if you have any lo-grade fever and observe the op area for any reddness or pain. In the meantime, just over it with gauze and speak to the nurse asap. Godloveya.

if you are going to remove the steri strips ,soak them off to prevent damage to the wound, dont pull at them. then make sure you either cover with a clean dressing or use more steri strips[you can buy these at the chemist] to close the wound if its still open.you may have an infection so it might be as well to go along to G.P.

do not remove steri strips, they are there for a reason and they will come off when your skin is healed, how much drainage are you having, if it is enough to soak the pad, then you need to be seen. Watch for other signs of infection, such as fever, redness around the incision, swelling, heat around the incision.

I find something wrong with this question. Steristrips are only used for wounds of the outer part of the skin, those that are superficial enough that they don't require suturing or stapling so I'm finding it hard to believe they were used for a surgical procedure. Second since they are used more superficially a bulky dressing wouldn't be required either. If they are "wet" they won't stick anyway so they are no doubt very loose. Looks like you need to wait on that return phone call.

Technically, steroids are not healthy. Although, if you must use them, than make sure you do correctly. TAKE OFF THE STRIPS. The bacterial anthreptinites coming out of the bandage into your membrane can slowly kill you. You had better take it off, call a doctor, and stop using steroids. Clean the wound ASAP.

no, don't take the strips off. it could be natural serous fluid, but if it is greenish yellow or smelly and red around the edges, just go to the GP surgery and show them - you need antibiotics and a new dressing
