I tried searching for vampire histories in relation to New Orleans. I can't come up with anything. What is the significance of New Orleans to the vampire story? What made it worthy to be used in Anne Rice's masterpiece? What is the connection between Vampires and New Orleans? Or the theme and the place? I honestly have no idea. Your help will be greatly appreciated. =D

Film
Becouse Tom Cruise who had the lead role said he'd like it there as he was around there and Tom Cruise means ..... money so she had to agree in the end. Kind of stupid acctually she had to give up her choices for the prima donna.

Book
It was something about her history. New orleans has been close to her and she wanted to write a novel based there. She lived there so she new the places and was familar so that helped. She could be accurate in her illustrations fro the book too.

I believe that Anne Rice lives/lived in New Orleans and fell in love with the city and the surrounding communities and felt it was a great place for her stories to touch in. She has done a least a couple of interviews on the today show and touch upon that theme....She is a wonderful writer and Interview is one of her many great books. As far as I know she is no longer writing vampire stories and is concentrating on her new bible theme...her newest novel Christ the Lord was excellent. Keep reading!!

If you ever read her novels, you will know she never really went away from the faith. Maybe questioning and had some issues, but she still knew about God. It might have also had something to do with the 20+ yrs of research on the novel "Christ the Lord". She had been writing this for years. She made it a point to be as accurate as she could. And, really - it's a very good read.

Anne Rice was born in New Orleans thus her using it in her books. Also the voodoo culture lent a dark mystical theme. Visit her website at www.annerice.com. Strange but true fact...her birth name was Howard Allen O'Brien.

She use to live on St. Charles Ave. in N.O. and it has all the ingredients she needed for a good vampire story. New Orleans history is full of voodoo culture and "boogey men". You write about what you know; and she did.

had nothing to do with Tom Cruise, yes she used to live there, but most people in New Orleans are decendants of people from France,England,The Islands, etc. As most people believe, vampires came from Europe. So she set most of her vampire stories in New Orleans, also the culture is rich in folklore of Voo Doo and Vampirism.

She lives there. Used a familiar place so her location descriptions would be accurate.
